today i went to photo market here in belgrade. i saw leica m4 which looked like it has seen a lot of use. price - 250 euro. that is almost all money i saved with my second job.
i tried all speeds , checked curtains for holes and other basic checks. and bought it... tomorrow i will get ltm to m adapter (with rest of the money) to try it with my fsu glass. ill try to shoot one color roll and develop it in local 1 hour lab just to check if everything is ok. i hope it is - because if something is wrong - i lost all my savings and ill have to save a lot for future repair.
dear friends keep yours fingers crossed for me...

Congrats and welcome to the club! At €250 for an M4 that passes at least superficial check it sounds like a bargain. M4 is one sweet tool that will let you focus in full on your photography.

Hi there.

I hope it all goes well for you. Not wanting to be funny, but do you not have any consumer protection law in your country? If I was buying this in the UK, I'd insist that the shop gave me at least 3 or 6 months guarantee - which effectively means if anything goes wrong with it in that time, they pay for it to be put right - or give me my money back....

Look forward to seeing the results.

Best wishes,

Paul

You people surely live good there. Here in Moscow shop where I buy used goods gives 3 days of warranty. Never complained yet, though. =)

we dont have anything like that, especially as this was on yearly photo market where a lot of collectors and users gather and buy and sell equipment. in serbia rf gear is pretty cheap because everybody buy dslr. only thing thats good is that i bought one kiev long ago from this guy and he is pretty honest person. (i even know where he bought this camera - on last year market some old guy was selling this camera with 3 50's and one 35 lens for 500euro - now he is selling camera for 250 and lenses for 200 each 😉 ) i asked also one friend of mine who has a used photo store and he said that he also checked that camera and that it is ok for users but it is nothing for collectors. so i hope we were right. 🙂

if something's wrong with it, just try to sell it here or on the *bay. i'm sure you'll be able to sell it for the price you paid.
i've seen jammed m3's go for 300 euro on the bay!

Congratulations! I think it is well spent money anyhow, even if your M4 should appear more or less out of specs. Try to find a reliable repairman who can clean an adjust it for an reasonable price.

From the sound of it you did very well and I hope you enjoy your new camera. The M4 I have is one of the smoothest cameras that has been my pleasure to use. Keep us posted on your impressions of it.

there is not much to congratulate - i didnt do nothing - i just spent money. i just wanted to have a camera with which i will be sure that my film will come out good (fsu gear served me well but few times i got messed film , and since i am very slow shooter (i shoot almost always just one photo of some place) it is many days or even weeks ruined for me...)
i hope that i will make some photos that deserve congratulations. 😀 until that happen this is just spent money.

Nice deal for M4! I had also nice deal a year ago... Black M6 classic + 28mm 3rd version elmarit, both in excellent++ condition: 900 EUR total... 🙂

If it has no flaws, it surely was a great deal. I recently upgraded from Fed-2 to Leica M4 and use it with fsu lenses, mainly with the J-8 50mm.
And my results improved, but that's mainly due to the bright line finder and more being into photography than at the beginning. 🙂

However, the M4 is a very good tool and I love to use it. I'm sure you will, too. Enjoy it!
