It just so happens that my favourite colour films are all made by Kodak – Ektar 100, and Portra 400 in 135 and 120. I understand that they make some popular traditional B&W film, as well.

If Kodak isn't an option, what do we use instead?

if Kodak is not an option for those films then use 160C and 400h?

Portra, both NC and the new stuff, is really my favorite film for color work so I can understand the panic. But I think we're ok for now.

Kodak still makes film. If you want them to keep doing so, keep buying it. The only alternative is Fuji, no one else makes color film anymore. Fuji makes good stuff, I use a lot of it too, but it will not be good to have just one supplier. Black and white is still made by a number of companies.

Fuji. For color I used to use a lot of Kodak and Fuji film. But in the last couple of years in am mainly a B&W shooter.

In b&w there are a lot of competitors to chose from in every possible format.

digitalintrigue, I'm glad to have your reassurance.

Chriscrawfordphoto, your advice of "if you want them to keep doing so, keep buying it" is absolutely spot-on for me personally, and far more valid than the Internet Wisdom it appears to be. Last week I was building up a $200+ film order at B&H, but on Sunday, September 25, I figured out that it would actually be cheaper for me to buy small quantities as needed from my local store. We all know what happened on September 26: Kodak needs $160,000,000 from their line of credit, their market valuation gets cut in half, and people who are much smarter and more informed than I am start talking about the possibility of bankruptcy. Needless to say, I wish I'd just gone ahead and bought those thirty rolls.

redisburning, GaryLH, thanks for the suggestions – I've been starting some research into Fuji films, and the first thing I've discovered is that it's more expensive. I had tried out Fuji films when I first started using my Fujifilm camera, naturally, but didn't really gel with any of them. Then The New Portra came along, and I stopped looking.

I certainly hope that Kodak continues with business as usual, but I'm going to start looking at other options as well as building up some stock.
