If you only had one SLR 50

Threads like this remind me how much I don't need 90% of my lenses.
I have a Summicron-R and a 50 S.C Nikkor 1.4, plus 50 H f2 that I like but the 50 that gets the most use is my Afd 50 1.4 Nikkor.

Well, if we are allowed to be flexible on that 50mm thing - I'd say Canon FL 58/1.2. Very cool lens here is a thread I had on it a while back:

If it has to be 50mm - I like Canon EF 50/1.4 or C/Y 50/1.4.

Well... You didn't say it had to be on a 35mm body. 😉 As a result I'd have to go for a 80mm f/2.8 on my Hasselblad 500CM, or if you insist on it being 50mm, I'll have a nice wide 50mm. 😀

that must be Australian dollars. no way the USD is strong enough to buy one in decent shape at that price (I did, though, see a pretty beat up one at 75).

I was happy to pay 115 US dollars for an EX condition example with caps.

btw, how much sharpness do you think you lose if you hold a lens up to the mount without an adapter? Because at f1.2 Im pretty sure my rokkor beats my crappy canon kit zoom at f8 lol. I may get one of those non infinity adapters for my 40d so I can take BOKEH shots of my dog and cats for trololols.

The Zuiko 50/1.8. I also have the 1.4 and 1.2 versions, but I love the shots I get from the 1.8. It's tiny, common, dirt cheap, and simply works great.

Lately I've been shooting with a Nikon 50/1.2 AIS. So far the results are excellent, but I haven't fallen in love with it yet.

I have one that came with an OM-2 kit I bought and the first time I used it I was amazed at how sharp it was!

Thats exactly how I got mine. Near perfect black OM-2, 50/3.5 macro, and nice Olympus full case for $75.00. 😀

Yeah, I'll keep my K version. There are sharper lenses out there, but the Pentax 50/1.2 is fine stopped down a bit, and at 1.2 has it's own character (probably true with all the super-fast 50s). And every true gear-head needs at least one fast 50!

Yes, they are. My best deal was a $10 Zuiko 50/1.8 MIJ... with a 'large rear cap' OM-4..😀

She found out, had the guy beheaded and banned all cameras that aren't SLRs (she didn't know how quiet OM's were).

Anyways in the redistribution of wealth of the new communist state everyone only gets to keep one lens. However only people who would keep a 50mm prime get to play (you can make up a story about how they got beheaded or something).

So, if you could only have one SLR 50mm lens, which one would you pick and why?

Finally a realistic If-you-had-to-pick-one-scenario! 🙂

I would settle for a Pentax-M 1.7 50mm, with one modification (you did not say anything about mods being forbidden 🙂): have the six-bladed iris replaced with a more rounded one.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the Sigma 50/1.4. I've had a lot of 50s but the Sigma's been the best overall. Better build, AF, sharpness, and bokeh than the EF 50/1.4. Yeah it's pretty huge (77mm threads) but it balances well on a 5D2.
