If your camera was a car, what would it be?

My everyday Petri 2.8 Color Corrected Super would be a Humber Super Snipe.

Let's hope not! My dad bought a Series I (the new, square shape) just before they were replaced by the Series II in 1959. I have a relatively vivid memory of us waiting for the AA to arrive, after something critical went wrong with the engine. I don't think we had it very long and my father never bought a big car again, much to my disappointment.

This. Absolutely.

But, if I were pressed to say a car, it'd be a Mini. A proper one, not that B*W nonsense. Because it's small and surprisingly capable, mnaging everything that needs doing really well, without any silly extras.

Voigtländer VF-101 - something classically European-sporty and small, but actually Asian underneath - maybe a Mazda Cosmo

Voigtländer Brillant V6 - classically German, nice to look at but not high performance - Porsche 356, probably the more sturdy and less sporty coupe version

Agfa Silette LK - got to be a Volkswagen I think... not a Beetle though, maybe a Karmann Ghia since it's a bit stylish, but still functional.

My Japanese rangefinders (Taron Promaster, Yashica M, Minolta Hi-Matic 11, Yashica Lynx 5000) would all be Datsuns of various sorts. The Hi-Matic is a bit more shiny and has better glass, so it could be a 240Z (a.k.a. S30, Fairlady Z). The others would be 1960's-70's sedans.

My Nettar, however, would be something old, elegant, with nice leather and fabric bits, not high-powered, and easy to operate - the Mercedes Simplex is a good fit.

Both of my DSLRs are boring, modern Japanese sedans. ;)
 
Rolls Royce with 4 wheel drive, run flat tires, fully armored and having a internal self contained atmosphere.

The cameras go in the trunk with a safe bolted to the floor.

I would like an Air Force Cargo plane to carry both of them to my destination so when I arrive in my private 747 they are waiting.

I will probably settle for a Chev Impala.

Finally replaced my SRT 101 from my very early years, now I need to find my Healey 100M. I'm somewhat afraid it will cost a little bit more though.

100/4 Le Mans is one of the few exceptions to the general rule that cars suck. It's like a less-reliable M4.

pentax KM 1968 plymouth valiant with the slant 6 and 3 on the tree. Nothing pretty or sexy about it just dependable . the pentax 645 1972 olds vistacruiser with 455 big slight overkill but fun for a stationwagon.
 
The one i have Merc A class 200,000 miles and never misses a beat, camera is a M4-2 and M4-P 70 year anniversary

Solid, never breaks, heavy, same age, and only cool in 1969.

That Cutlass is more of a 4x5 in my mind, possibly a Deardorf. Great car though, used to have the rag-top version of it - 440 with Hurst shifter. Would lay rubber at the slightest provocation. Top was mostly duct tape!

Rolls Royce Shooting Break - perfect for the custom built 11x14" Deardorf. Probably could use the same varnish for the body and the camera too.

M5 = Mercedes diesel station wagon. Although perhaps the panzer with a silencer would suffice.

I have a number of cameras but I guess my M3, D800 and X100S would be a highly aftermarket tuned Audi and my Xpan, Hasselblad 501CM and Chamonix 45N2 would be a 350HP supercharged Toyota that gets 22MPG and has 300 watts of solar on the pop-up camper enabling it to stay parked in one spot for weeks at a time.
 
Q:
If your camera was a car, what would it be?
A: Nothing fancy, or to show the status of snob. Used, a lot, by current user. With paint loose spots and scratches, but not trashed.
 
My Zorki-4 would be a NSU Ro 80 :) Unreliable, yet fantastic when it works, not that I would know anything about that, I don't have a drivers license, but I'm sure the Ro 80 is a wonderful experience.
 
If I ever get my M4-2 back from repair I think it would be dead simple VW air cooled bug. Minimalist for sure.

I lived vith bugs for years and walked easy with them, got very familiar with their strong and weak points and could perform mantainance and repair in my sleep.
