Hey guys,
First time post here, just picked up a IIIf in relatively good condition but needed work (replace curtain, replace vulcanite and cla) but otherwise nice. Mr Ye has it currently to work his magic but it did not come with the film take up spool 🙁

i thought perhaps i could use my m3 spool but read they are too long so that won't work.

i'll look on evilbay but wanted to know
a) are the replicas a viable option?
b) are their non leica ones that would work?
c) other places to look?
d) i'll post on the WTB section but figured i might as well ask here as well (if this is not cool to do so then let me know and i'll delete)

hoping to have it sooner than later and hope to post up soon with it in hand

cheers
ron

I do not think that an M3 spool would work. I remember reading about it somewhere. Do ask Youxin about one. He may have a spare one to sell you.

Thanks for the reply. You are correct, M2/3 spools are too long from what I've read that too. Youxin doesn't have one either. A fellow rff has contacted me so fingers crossed it works out! still gonna keep looking for another just in case that falls thru.

Hi,

I don't know the IIIf's but if they are like my II, IIIc etc then a FED or Zorki one will do the trick and is better than the original for my ones.

The FED or Zorki ones have a hook that holds the film firmly but the Leitz ones rely on friction and, since the grip has two rivets holding it that loosen, often don't work.

BTW, there's a version of the old USSR ones with a centre that pulls out, I'm not sure if they fit the Leicas.

Regards, David
