i went to the post office today to finally send my broken summicron 40 off for repair.
and waiting there for me was my like new cv 40/1.4, all ready to mate up with the little cl.

it's a nice looking little lens. a bit bigger than the 40/2 and a bit heavier also. but a feel i quite like, a good heft.

i'm pretty sure this combo will be the one for me and the 40/2 summicron will be on the block as soon as it returns.
i doubt that i'd keep two 40mm lenses and i'm guessing the cv will be plenty sharp for my needs. just look at trevor's photos!

plus it arrived on the very day i sent the 40/2 off for repair.

it's a sign...

Get one of Gordy's tripod wriststraps. Works wonderfully on my CL.

I need a sign to point me in the direction of shooting a bit more. I need to start my summer field trips with the boy, taking a simple single camera lens kit. Lots of choices for speed right now. The new ZM 50/1.5 just joined the ranks with the 40/1.4. Nice stuff.

a really bad sign...

it seems that my choices for 40 have been cut in half.

i talked with gerry of kinderman fame today on the phone.
the tab can be replaced with a modified one from a more current leica lens but he has some fears for the lens.

seems the transit ride to canada from the states was a bit much for the lil summicron. gerry thinks it suffered from a rather large impact and the lens barrel is out of round now. it can focus but the focus is very stiff and he thinks even wih a re-polish of the barrel that it may never be the same.
it can be fixed but at close to the cost of what it is worth. and he figured resale value, just with the modified tab, would be affected and that doesn't even take into consideration the likely for life stiff focus.
too bad eh?

from all i have heard, gerry smith is one of the best for leica repair and i will take his word on this. i told him that i'd think about it for a bit and i'll probably just email him and ask that he send it back to me.

now it's time to turn up the heat on the american post ofice and see what that bloody insurance actually covers.

i have no faith in the insurance and i'm not sure how it will all end.

the only thing that kinda gets me is that it's holding back any new buys till the money thing gets worked out.
after getting the luigi case for the cl i have had the strongest desire to get one for the m3.

and all my camera money is pretty much gone (for awhile) as i just agreed to buy a very nice cv 28/3.5 for the cl.

it's a sickness...

😉

A sickness? Yep, it sure is. But just in case misery really does love company, I should share with you that I just bought both a CV 28mm and a CV 35mm lens. Okay, am I done yet? Sheesh, when is enough, enough?
