I'm assuming my M9 is toast...

On the Leica website you find some paper you have to fill out and send with the camera.

Would this be the general consensus to send it directly to Germany for the best Service?

This is the address on the Leica site which I would assume is correct, since I've also seen a Solms address as well...

What type of paper work do I include, a print on the issue basically? Anything else?

I'm going to send it to NJ... They issued me a shipping label.. we'll see what happens.. So far the process has been very responsive..

Very cool.

I bought my M-E from Samy's Camera in Los Angeles and when the sensor failed within the warranty period, Samy's wanted to charge me for shipping and insurance to send it to Leica NJ for repair!
Which is why that shop has lost my business.

Wow! Well I emailed someone in Germany explained the issue, he then asked for where I was from so he could forward my inquiry.. I get an email from a guy in NJ asking for my address so they could issue me a UPS label to cover the costs.. I get a label like 10 min later or so.. Since this has been so smooth I was like hell NJ makes sense.. Will report back

For those in the US thinking of sending a camera to Germany, be aware there are new customs rules and specific paperwork required to keep your customs fees lower when the camera returns. I was bitten sending a Rollei to DHW a few years ago, but it is apparently worse now. Check with Leica in Germany for the proper paperwork.

Camera is off to NJ... we'll see what happens next..

I've been very happy with Leica NJ repair services. My M-E has had the sensor replaced twice. The latest iteration replaced with the new updated sensor. I was fortunate to receive a loaner M240 while mine was in the shop the second time.

Bought my M-E new in December 2012. Still love this camera.

Same issue with my old M-E. I often wish I kept it instead of selling and buying an M240. I preferred the crisper look from the M-E. And I thought the Bauhaus Battleship Grey paint job was just so sweet.

Really good to hear...I purchased my M9 used 3+ years ago from Leica Store Miami it had been checked by Leica NJ and was given a clean bill.. Worked flawlessly until a couple of weeks ago..

Leica Store Miami gives good service... On a couple things I bought from them that needed service, they handled it, even if the item had to go to Germany. All I had to do was get it to them, then no charges.

They are good folks down at the Leica Store in Miami for sure. I just didn't feel the need to add a middle man to the process... I would have no problem dealing with them again in the future..

Just to give everyone an update... After sending my M9 to Leica in NJ in late Sept, and calling almost every other week I finally got an estimate for repair and will be done FREE of charge new sensor needed 6-8 weeks for it to be completed... I'm happy with the resolution even if its going to take awhile...

Actually no surprise here. Leica regularly does courtesy repairs in cases like this. I didn't mention it because I didn't want to raise hope which might be disappointed. 😉
