together the money to get an M2 or an M3. One of the things I do first is look around and see if I have anything to sell or trade. I'm almost down to the good stuff, the stuff I said I'll never sell. In one of the bags I found my Leica R4, Grip, a 50mm Summicron, and a 90 Elmarit. I don't use it much but when I do I love it.

It's one of those cameras that's hard to part with. Would it be a fair trade for an M2 or M3? What would a camera kit like that be worth? When I do remember to use it instead of one of my Nikon's I always think, "Man O man, why don't I use this camera more?"

Another way to get two views of pricing is to go to KEH and price the same gear as (1) a purchase and then (2) a sale (to them). You should be able to sell your gear somewhere between those prices. R gear in general does not hold its value as well as M gear, unfortunately.

To keep, trade or sell -- hard call. Some I regret, some I don't...you never know how you'll feel down the road.

Thanks you guys for the info. I just got an email with what may be exactly what I'm looking for and I may not have to sell the R4. It's weird, when I decided to sell it my neighbor came over and offered me a ton of money for my MG. It's not for sale but he's been after me for years to buy it.

I don't drive it anymore and I know he will. The weird thing is after I taked to him about the MG I came back in and found this email that may be my dream M3. I get to keep the MG and the R4. I still may sell the MG because I recently bought a big-ass truck and I really hate it's carbon footprint. I only use it for camping. Driving around the Palouse eats gas so I may just trade the MG for my neighbors little Subaru.

Man, what a rant. Sorry about that. My desire for an M3 has lead me to lower my carbon footprint, keep a beloved camera and get another one. Isn't RFF GREAT!!!
