I give up. The new forum seemed like a good idea. The ability to post photos without jumping through hoops sounded wonderful. Ultimately, I'm so effin' lost here I can't express my frustration. I know it's me. I'm just old and unable to adapt to change very well. But, honestly, I can't do this any longer. RFF has been a regular morning go-to for me for years. The assembled knowledge here is amazing. But there's a limit to my patience and frustration level. Until this mess gets sorted out or I have an epiphany and begin to understand the mechanics of this new forum, I can't do it any longer. I'm taking a break. Not gone forever, just taking a break. I'll drop in every now and then and see how things are progressing. I'll leave you with a photo I did yesterday (if that still works). _XPA0026-1-1.jpg See you later, folks.
 
I understand your frustration. Sometimes a break is good.

I felt the same initially, but am getting acclimated more each day - although, I don't feel a sense of being anchored (or having a sense of structure) as I did on the initial landing page of the legacy site.

I think locating the site structure TOC - that used to be in the left column on the Legacy RFF landing page and was always present - to a stand-alone Forum TAB creates a dis-jointed experience and loss of context.

I'm not sure: Whats Going On, Tag Cloud, Trending, and a blank Calendar add much value. By the way, where *did* the Tag field go? I remember seeing it earlier.

I'm afraid I have similar sentiments as Dogman. I am pretty computer savvy but this new site just doesn't make sense to me and maybe I'll end up being more productive somewhere else in my life with the time saved trying to navigate the new RRF.
 
Dogman, before you leave, can we try to help you? I'm no expert but am glad to help, if I can. State the first problem and let's see where it goes.

Sadly, me too. I can’t find familiar posts or topics. I will still drop in every now and then, but it will no longer be a daily exercise in expanding my knowledge and enjoying the achievements of fellow photographers. I will miss it, but I have to move on.
 
I can't log into the Gallery no matter what I try. Password recovery failed - my email doesn't exist, even though I use it for the main site. So I tried setting up a new gallery user. That failed, too. This all feels like an early beta test.
 
The old forum software was so out-of-date that it presented a security hazard. On top of that: the Front Page was a separate piece of software that had been abandoned many years ago.

Trying to get the new version of vbulletin to recreate the old RFF presentation page must be difficult- I suspect we'll have growing pains for a while. I cannot log into the gallery, the activation Email does not come through. Front page displaying post activity instead of Latest Thread activity is not what I want. Displaying "HOF" considerations at the top of every thread is overkill.

BUT- I think posting feedback from all members will give Jorge a priority list to work on. Unfortunately, going back to the prior version of software just cannot be done.

And now, I am turning to my 2.7GHz CF-53 running DOS and writing code in FORTRAN-77, and getting paid to do it. I've used the same compiler since 1988. I bought lifetime perpetual rights to it.

Well I am neither a programer nor I work for this site and thus have any input to how this site should look. As you mention there are already quite a few other more important things/bugs for the programer to work on.
 
Yes like a great way to just download jpegs, every time I do it, it say the files to large. When I go on Photo.net
I just download any size and it there. Why is it so hard for these guy's to do that here.

I'm kind of the same way with the overall sentiments here. I don't have problems with "change", it's more a matter of things I like vs. things I don't like, improvements vs. change. I love improvements. Am completely on board with thinking it's just me, no problem there. If this is where everyone wants it to go, with all the extra boxes on the landing page, as already mentioned by others, and all the other things mentioned by others, not sure what I am going to do. Have already taken it off homepage status on my computer, but I do make an attempt to come in once a day to "try". Maybe that will work. I know that doesn't make much sense because all the same people are still here and the same content is here if one is willing to work a little harder to get to it.
Just not feeling it, not worth the effort right now, even if I look into any of the threads I've normally been interested in. Maybe I'll get better and hang in there long enough to make this seem like an old friend, but need to say, that the first time I found this forum, years ago, it felt like an old friend instantly, even though I had never even seen it before.
I know the underlying architecture was so rickety, that it had to be replaced, and I welcomed that, but, the rest of it that's been added on (and I also recognize the hard work that took to do that, so sincere thanks there) just isn't really welcomed here, I guess. It's just in the way. Again, understood that "it's just me". But, "me" is eventually who it needs to work for. I will try hard and long and don't give up easily, but other photo sites getting more love now, and none of those look like RFF used to look. So, I can't say I understand my reaction, but it's not good. It's like walking into a room and wanting to ask, "who farted?" Not that there's anything wrong with that.
 
It may not be you, it may be that the site is still a work in progress. Sometimes when I click Forums > New Topics, I get new topics, and at other times, I get an Advanced Query page. I suppose that some quirks are still being sorted out.
 
The old site to me was very quirky and archaic, one reason being the age of the software, and the other being owner preferences. Most of us just kind of went along with it because for the most part there was no alternative. I think this new site has a good base structure, but trying to emulate the old site is not working well. There is some unnecessary redundancy, and for some reason no one list of topics recent or new that follows any sort of protocol one might find anywhere else on the Internet. If you just even look at a topic, it disappears from the list when you go back to the List page. The Latest Topics list on the Home page is kind of a waste of space. If you go to the Forum page and pull down the New Topics list, when you go to the second page the list then mystically comes under the Home page. And some of the fixes are breaking previous fixes, such as I was having to sign-in twice because it wouldn't take the first time, which got fixed, and now it's back to doing the double sign-in again.

There should have been a Sticky created for issues with the new forum instead of relying on folks creating a new thread for every little issue, which gets confusing to try and track down if anyone else is experiencing the same issues as I or anyone else is having, especially the way the topics just move around the site, appearing and disappearing on their own will (some of which I suspect have been removed as I can't find them anywhere).

I do hope someone can make this a truly up-to-date site, as so far it's getting worse instead of better.

I took time off from P.O.T.N. after they moved to habass is something engine. It was just hurting my eyes after upgrade. APUG went to Phortio via forum engine upgrade and it was smooth. They kept users updated on the upgrade progress and were much more communicative after update.

I think RFF needs to introduce voluntary paid membership, which might help with better engine and misfunctions support.

Users tend to dump unnecessary huge files at forum, this just as anything else using storage space, but have to pay for it. I don't know if Photo.net owner is this rich or photo.net engine converts files to appropriate size before adding it to the storage.

I'm not averse to paid membership..... but the user interface of RFF would benefit from attention to graphic design & ease use.
 
I'm not sure what is wrong with the graphics..
But it is a big strain to read & search for me..even in dark mode..
All issues have already been stated and I'm sure they are working on it and will rectify the problems incrementally as time goes on..
At least.. I actually put an avatar up..lol..thats a 1st..
But in its current form..RFF is not easily usable and I will reduce and/or stop visiting until the issues are solved.
