Hi,
This forum is a wealth of knowledge about anything related to cameras. Want to find the best lens that your winning lottery ticket can buy ? You got it. Want to know what MF camera you can buy with the nickel you just found on the street ? There it is. Need the best repairman for your super-duper-maxi-deluxe piece of electronics ? He'll be online. Wanted to know how to get a strip of leather off an animal you just drove over and onto your camera ? The leather workshop has just started, right next to the woodworks and the lens polishing ones.
People with these kinds of artisanal experience are usually very friendly, because they've quit the rat race a long time ago. That's the atmosphere here, in my opinion. We all know something (be you 20 or 80) and because we're here, we'd rather give input to help while we're at it. I can imagine some people getting irritated over a couple of things, but I've seen the same happen on the Olympus mailing list, which is another one of the really nice Internet communities I've had the luck to stumble upon. I have been on and off there for over 10 years and conflicts come and go. That's life, just ignore it and enjoy the rest of the threads: 99% is still the same as before, you know. I'm not off the Olympus list now because of what the list has become: it was different yet still as nice as any of the times I had subscribed before, when I unsubscribed. I just couldn't handle the volume of that list and this combined and I'm using RF mainly these days.
For those who did leave, I hope for them it's a step for the better. This isn't the place for everybody, that's normal. But it's still a very varied place that I love coming back to.
Peter.
