I must admit to preferring the simple non-metered M2/M3/M4 leica Ms over the dreadfully distracting low-light, lame-ass BLINKING 'red-haze' in the MP viewfinder. O baby, I do not miss that. .

+1. I don't miss mine (replaced by 2 M2s)

I love my MP -- the best M I've ever used - period. Fantastic camera. I'd never sell it. If you can find one you can afford, try it -- if you don't like it - they have tremendous resale value right now. I could easily sell mine for more than I paid for it...

Vincent, FWIW, I think you chose wisely ... I have owned a few MPs over the years, used all of the different VF magnifications, but still I must admit to preferring the simple non-metered M2/M3/M4 leica Ms over the dreadfully distracting low-light, lame-ass BLINKING 'red-haze' in the MP viewfinder. O baby, I do not miss that. I gradually moved my Leica MP bucks into my MF equipment and some sweet glass, especially some of Mandler's finest lenses. That said, a MP is a great camera for many, just not for me.

you can just take the battery out to get non-meter. one more a la cart mp is on my bucket list still.

I missed the boat already.
The price of a new MP has now doubled compared to when it was first introduced in 2003. I just find it too expensive for a day-to-day camera.

Update:

I am no longer interested in a Leica MP. So here's what I did with my money that I saved for a new Leica MP...

I got myself a Leica M2 (had it overhauled)... plus a new scanner, LOTS of film (cans of 400ft Double-X and 100ft Tri-X), film chemicals... and still have quite a bit of leftover dough...

For the leftover dough, I am buying:
1) air tickets and booking hotel accommodations for a family holiday
2) a mountain bike with child seats to bring my sons around
3) small bicycles/tricycles for my sons
4) a new sofa
5) probably a new CV lens or two (21mm, 35mm, 50mm)
6) some photo books

I am all set for 2013. 😎

I bought an EPSON V700 - for scanning 35 and 120 negatives.

In the past week that I have owned the V700, I have nothing but praise for it! 🙂
Good enough for my web sharing and digital archiving needs (I print in the darkroom).
I didn't experience unsharp scans mentioned in the internet.
Either they are doing something wrong or I am doing something right!😛
I just used the Epson film holders. I removed all the height adjusters!
NO ANR glass needed! 😉

It is a capable replacement for my problematic Nikon Coolscan V (gift from a friend who went digital). Furthermore my Coolscan V cannot scan 120.
Recently my Coolscan V insists on spitting out every piece of negative that I fed into it. :bang:

I just went to Map Camera in Shinjuku and looked very closely and used MPs and used M6 Millenniums - I went with the Millennium. The larger speed dial made all the difference for me and I figure it'll hold it's value just as well.
