You're going to love it. Is this your first time with film, coming from digital? Or just been using SLR's?
Yes, you pretty much got it exactly. My first real intelligent exposure to photography is with a digital SLR - currently I'm shooting with a D700. I really like going out and taking photos without a huge camera, so that's what attracted me to rangefinders in general. Long story short, I ended up here.
This is a killer combination. Set the lens to f4.0 unless you really need a specific dof effect, and keep a reasonably fast film inside. If you focus well, and it is quite easy, as the rf is very accurate, and you shoot it at a high speed like 1/1000 or 1/2000, you will see what this lens is really able to deliver.
Thanks! I really enjoy your photos by the way, I see them a lot when I scout around on Flickr in the M-mount lens group.
What range are you talking about when you say "reasonably fast" film? I tried just a few rolls of Tri X 400 on 35mm and medium format. It's okay, but I don't love it. I'm not a big fan of grain, and I heard BW400CN has very fine grain for film, so I want to try that next. So would you say ASA 400 is reasonably fast?
Awesome all-round combination, congratulations!
If you want a great lens for 50mm work, try out the ZM C Sonnar 50/1,5. Compact, fast and it renders with a different, more vintage look than you will get the 35 Biogon.
Best of the available light to you!
Thanks for the suggestion! I know a 50mm is in my future sometime, but I'm slightly hesitant about the Sonnar f/1.5 because of the different optimizations I heard about. The new Voigtlander 50/1.1 actually is affordable for it's technical specs, so I might save up for that...of course, depending on how the reviews go when regular folks actually get their hands on it...
Enjoy! The lens does everything well - a real jack of all trades. I could spend a lifetime shooting with one body and this lens and never feel too frustrated.
Thanks! I think the 35mm focal length will suit the type of photography I want to achieve with this camera, and I hear the Biogon is one of the top notch lenses.
Sell it immediately and buy a digital point-and-shoot -- unless you like good pictures.

Ciao Panda81
enjoy really that masterpiece that sooner or later will find its way toward my bag too.. 😉
Thanks Dino...it's actually your fault that I started looking at the Zeiss Ikon! (The thread where I asked about Leicas in Nikon Cafe...your response started my entire obsession over the ZI). I'm going to blame you when my wife starts asking me questions.
🙂
Sweet! Congrats on an excellent combination. 🙂
Thanks DN!
