Gentlemen,
Greenpoint is a yuppie/hipster Central these days. There is almost no Polish left. Some stores and restaurants. Most of Polish tesidents migrated to Ridgewood, Maspeth and Middle Village.
If anyone likes napoleon pastry and eclairs, there is a wonderful bakery on Manhattan Ave between Greenpoint Ave and Calyer St, called Cafe Riviera. Their pastries are wonderful.

Sam,
The Greenpoint I know is one of twenty years ago when it kinda was a rough and tumble neighborhood. A Chinese guy with a ponytail was kinda not welcomed there.
I would agree this is a prime area for hipsters, especially along the waterfront.
When I lived in LIC I would go back to The Busy Bee Market and buy fresh Perogies. We lived in a row house on Monitor Street very close to McGolrick Park. My landlord was Polish, and the tenent on the third floor was a Polish cop who ran the Polaski Association (Polish cops).
Certainly the old Greenpoint is gone.

I just fixed my schedule so that I have the 26th off work. But all this talk of death marches and heat stroke gives me pause!
Will I be able to make it to work on Tuesday, Cal, or will I be spending the week in an ICU somewhere?
Raj,
The weather is too mild to be a real Death March. Basically you need major heat wave, high heat index, smog alerts, and high humidity, or a combination of the four. Pretty much NYC has to resemble Hell and only fools would go out to shoot all day. LOL.
Expect to have tired legs, but understand unlike Newtown Creek excursions where there is only one way in and one way out (walking), you can break off and take a bus or subway. Also this excursion is going to be more relaxed.

What's the best train and where are you meeting?
Bob,
I figure we can all meet at the Court Square Dinner at 9:00 AM for breakfast.
Best trains are the 7, E and G, but you could take any of the Queens Plaza trains and it is a a short walk.
I'll PM you my cell. I likely will head out early and be shooting alone near Queens Plaza. Early-early morning there is mucho pretty light and great shadows. If you want to hook up with me before breakfast you can just go to Queens Plaza and call me.
Robert I believe will already be in LIC.

Raj,
I'll reveal my secret location where I'm finding all this great light. I'll likely be out there as early as 7:30 AM.
BTW I bought mucho SS Nikor reels for 120 and a dip and dunk rack made of SS that can hold 18 rolls and requires 3 1/2 gallons of solution.
Also bought a SS daylight tank that can hold 6 or 7 reels of 120.
Also trying to secure a 70mm reel and tank that can handle 15 feet of 70mm double perf to use the "CINE" backs for my Linhofs. 60+ exposures in 6x7, or 120+ exposures in 645. That is correct I found a rare 645 CINE that seems no-one thought Linhof made. This means less reloading and missing shots.
I have eight Grafmatics incoming and already I have two.

Plan A: Court Square Diner for breakfast.
Plan B : go to Queens Plaza earlier than 9:00 AM and hook up with Cal by calling him on his cell.
The early morning light in that area is really good. Worth getting up early.
I'll likely be shooting in Queens Plaza at 7:30 AM.

Hi Cal,
Great - I'll take the train to Queens Plaza and call you around 7.30.
You sound like you're fully tooled up for some heavy duty Linhof shooting (and developing)!

Raj,
I'm getting ready for some serious photography. Seems like there is this Rollie IR film in 70mm that is around $98.00 per 100 feet. I figure about 4 feet is equiv to a roll of 120 so all of the sudden what's not to like shooting film at $2.50 a roll like the old days, but this time I'm not shooting 35mm Arista Premium (rebranded Tri-X) that cost $2.89 a roll or close dated Arista Pro (Rebranded Acros) for $1.89 a roll.
This is fresh film I believe.
BTW I never shot IR film before.

Goodluck loading IR film. Depending on the spectral sensitivity you might have to load in complete darkness

Nah, I've just never been one for "what used to be." Things change, evolve, devolve, etc. I can't control it, so I just try to find things to enjoy. Still plenty of great things to enjoy about NYC.

I like it too, but this may be because I haven't been here long enough to have experienced its previous incarnations

Oh yea it's great these changes, when you go down to a area where
you could get anything you want and then go back year's later to find
a bank, starbuck's and a drug store.
