Nah, I've just never been one for "what used to be." Things change, evolve, devolve, etc. I can't control it, so I just try to find things to enjoy. Still plenty of great things to enjoy about NYC.
John,
Up the block on Lex from where I live is River Rogue Cigar Co. that will be opening in July. It is advertised as a cigar lounge and "Husband Daycare."
"Have an event with us: Birthday; Bachelor; Bachelorette; Wedding; Divorce; All Sporting Events.

Meanwhile I smell a fermenting greasy dumpster flavoring the air, but I see no dumpsters. Welcome to East Harlem.

Cal,
I may be able to meet you for your 7:30am walk about, and breakfast, then go to work after breakfast.

Joe,

Oh yea it's great these changes, when you go down to a area where
you could get anything you want and then go back year's later to find
a bank, starbuck's and a drug store.
Bob, I understand... but change happens and I just roll with it. It STILL is an interesting city even if not as interesting. That's why Santiago was a nice move for me... it still has some sections with an older appeal and then new sections. I guess I'll see the same changes over the years here.

Are you going to check it out? Those places seem like my nightmare, haha.

John,
I'm just giving you the smut. LOL. I was eyeing the place because *** and then I was handed this card that advertised and promoted a place that had not even opened up yet.
I think your biggest nightmare would be if you saw one of my Linhof's. These Baby-Linhof's weigh about 7 1/2 pounds each. LOL. Free gym membership with every Linhof sold.
But to fully monsterize a Linhof I added a "CINE" back that in itself weighs 1.7 pounds. Consider that my M6 with 35/1.8 Nikkor in LTM with TA Rapidgrip only weighs 2 pounds, 1.7 pounds for a film holder without film or cassettes is a lot.
So you need to understand that if one is going to try and shoot a Linhof like a Leica that one needs either two assistants like Richard Avedone to keep loading Rollieflex's as he empties cameras; be like Diane Airbus and carry three loaded Rollie's in a knapsack; or carry one Linhof with a CINE back.
I load 15 feet of 70mm double perf film into a CINE back, and that gives me 60+ shots of 6x7 without having to reload. If that is not enough I found some rare Linhof CINE that I bought from a German dealer that offeres 120+ exposures of 645 from 15 feet of film.
The hard part was securing the required 15 foot reels to process this film, and I found 3. These three reels only came with a stainless steel Nikor tank that can only hold a single reel, but I'm looking into a JOBO Expert tank that might be able to hold all three reels as an inversion tank.
Another thing I bought that is crazy is a dip and dunk rack that holds 18 reels of 120 film and requires a 3 1/2 gallon tank. Mucho crazy.
The Tech IV with a 100/2.8 Zeiss Planar I am naming Louie in honor of Louis Mendez. For this camera I also have the Polaroid back. Pretty much this camera should be a tourist attraction. LOL.

Pro-Mone,
There is a joke: "Do you know why divorce costs so much?"
The answer is it is worth it. LOL.
In my case it was a good deal. LOL.

European cities have more of their old town centres with the developing and changing periphery, similar model applied to some colonial (South) American cities.
Barcelona is all about tourists and the last years concern the overflow and the "theme park" feeling of the city. A couple decades ago it was much different. I studied in an area that before the olympics was wholly industrial, and some run down areas remain, but almost all was torn down and made apartments.
The worst nightmare I guess would be not seeing, but carrying 2 of the monster Linhofs!I think your biggest nightmare would be if you saw one of my Linhof's. These Baby-Linhof's weigh about 7 1/2 pounds each. LOL. Free gym membership with every Linhof sold.

I very often shoot film quite slowly and zen-like. Though 8 EXP 6x9 is a bit short, when the mojo kicks in... must reload. Felt it when we did the same LIC walk. 12 exp feels less "short".
36 EXP on the other hand does feel long. Then digital is frenzy mania. Because "free"!

Jorde,
I carried these two Linhof's to a Meet-Up. I think I am man enough for just one.
I tend to shoot in three round bursts. I generally take a shot, move closer, and then maybe shoot from a lower vantage point. I did this after studying Diane Arbus' contact sheet of the little boy playing in Central Park with a hand grenade. It was 12 shots of the same subject with her moving around reframing shots.
Out of a three round burst one shot will clearly be better than the others, and sometimes the slightest difference makes a huge impact on the light or image. Then again I might do a second or third three round burst.
I'm not talking spray and pray here, but accually learning to grab shots and composing fast in a street style. To me if you shoot B&W you can afford to shoot a lot, especially if you process yourself. Also to be good or great one has to shoot a lot. The more the better.

John,
At least they got the photo credits right on this one.
Funny thing is that we were on a line to some fashion event last week for a few seconds before we got shoed to bypass the line as celebs. One thing is to be UBER'ed and another to have a driver in a black car drop you off and wait for you.
On this particular day hair and make-up came to our apartment at 7:30 AM and the driver picked us up at 9:00 AM to drive us to a designer's flagship showroom. The driver waited while a news crew from a major TV network filmed "Maggie" selecting 3 "looks." This is all in a store that didn't open till 11:00 AM, but they were open for us. By 10:30 we were done with the store and the video crew stalked Maggie and I doing our Street/Runway thing with me shooting the Leica SL and chimping the shots I took around Tribeca.
I found our waiting driver and had him take us home. The Hair and Make-Up would return at 4:30 PM and at 6:00 PM our driver would pick us up again to take us to the brand new Public Hotel just south of Houston Street. Thes is where we were VIP'ed and bypassed the line immediately.
The Public is 18 stories tall and the rooftop deck where this fashion party was taking place had unobstructed views of the Freedom Tower and Mid-Town. Really dramatic views. I can honestly say that Maggie and I were not only the oldest people there, but basically we were the only old people. "Maggie" was surrounded by fans who follow her.
This event was fot "W" Magazine, but I was asked by some PR person from Elle Magazine if I was press.
We left around 8:30 PM and our driver took us home. It definitely was cool being treated special, but I'm not sure I like it. Kinda fun in a way, but I think I am more proud and got more pleasure out of the work we did together looking for shots, light, and cool things to shoot.
BTW an interview has yet to be performed and this news segment will be broadcast prime-time nationally on a major network.
Perhaps when I find out when this package gets aired you might see me running around Tribeca with my camera for a few seconds.

Monday the weather is predicted a high of 77 degrees, a low of 63 degrees, and only a 10% chance of rain.
All I can say is that yet again I am a lucky guy.

Ph and Bob,
Thanks. Kinda crazy. Somehow I became the "Incidental Fashion Photographer."
It is really strange having a gal that is a celeb. While I'm busy shooting other people are trying to do selfies with my gal. One guy apologized after catching himself being caught up in his excitement. Interesting to see how people get overstimulated like toddlers where they can't self regulate.
Just last Wednesday a young girl got all animated and overly excited by recognizing "Maggie." She disrupted our shooting, and in this case it was bad because it was late afternoon with that fleeting light. She was shrieking like a five yer old.
In Shanghi during "Fashion Weekend" Maggie reported being surrounded by a ring of bodyguards to keep the crowds from mobbing her.
What is getting more complicated is now that she has an agent, looks like in this world and level people have more than one agent, and there is some serious talk of getting and paying a manager.
BTW in Mike's shoot (the shot on the fire escape in the Bowelry) I worked as a second assistant for Mike who is the real deal fashion photographer. I don't ever want to manage a crew like the pros.
