in the image of the cle...

the XE2 body was pretty much perfect for me.
CLE size would be great but uncomfortable with longer/bigger lenses (not a deal breaker for me either as I only have 12/18/50 lenses for Fuji)

anyhow, I sold my X-T2, an X-E2 on its way while waiting for the X-E3

from the rumors on the X-E3, they have checked 2 things that I wanted (X-Trans III 24MP is pretty much a given.)
-joystick
-ISO/shutter dial

only things left on my wish-list are bigger EVF and USB charging

X-E1 (E2, E2s) is a tad longer than the CL, and the height is the same, body is slightly thinner. They are, for all practical purposes, the same size. 🙂 Don't have a CLE handy unfortunately, so this will have to do...

Remains to be seen if the X-E3 is the same size as previous models.

Will the current Fuji 18mm f/2, 27mm f/2.8, and 56mm f/1.2 lenses on the new XE3 be acceptable substitutes for the classic Leica 28mm f/2.8, 40mm f/2 and 90mm f/2.8 lenses on the classic Leica CL or Minolta CLE?

I wish Fujifilm would refine some of the aesthetics of the cameras. Way too much text and labelling for one. Won't hurt to take some design cues from the Leica TL and reducing some of the "camera" cruft.

Sure. You can stand in the same place with the Fujinon lenses you stood with the CL or CLE.

The images will be different because the lens coatings and optical designs are different. Different does not automatically imply inferiority. That is a subjective issue.

The 27/2.8 does not have an aperture ring. This bothers some people. The 18 and 27 are reportage lenses. The 18 happens to be one of the best Fujinon primes for close up work. My 18/2 is one of the first sold in the U.S. The AF squeaks a bit. I shot a wedding reception with the 56/1.2 on the X-T1. I was very pleased with the results. I don't like the ugly, huge, petal hood.

Anyway, I'm very please with these three lenses. The 18 and 27 Fujinons use older AF motor technology. But with the X-Pro 2, X-T1 their AF works very well. Even MF is acceptable. I did discover upgrading the lens firmware made a huge difference in AF/MF with the X-Pro 2.

I prefer the 23/2 and 35/2. But the 27/2.8 is a useful compromise when I just want to carry one lens for street work.

If I didn't own the 56/1.2 I would definitely buy the 50/2.
