I'm curious how often you found yourself using the Canon 100/3.5. I have that lens and it's a terrific optic, but I've found that a 50/35 or 50/28 combination covers nearly all my needs on a vacation trip. Interested in your experience.

Not often. I probably shot fewer than 10 frames with it. Nonetheless, I like having the option. The lens is small, light, and spectacularly good.
On a related note, this was the first major trip I did with the 50/28 combo, and I think it worked out pretty well. I'm still getting used to 28, but it's becoming more instinctive.

Yes, that is one sexy thread title.
28/50 is the best travelling combo for me.

Very interesting description followed by really good images.
Those old cameras have a charm.
They are also quite small and light.
Looking forward to the Portra and more BW.

OK, here we go with the next batch. These are all centered around the beach and the Promenade des Anglais, the main boulevard that runs along it. It's sort of the center of activity in Nice, with hotels and restaurants all along, and the wonderful old town down at one end. Of course, it was also the site of the Bastille Day attack. The juxtaposition of the touristic and the tragic was jarring, but it seemed as though people were making an active effort to return to something approaching normality.
I have enough photos that fall into this group that I'm going to divide them up. I'm posting the color today, and the B&W will come tomorrow. Enjoy.

Interesting choice of composition on 6. Makes me want to get a lens and take my IIIc for a spin but my m setups are quite good.

The first bunch of black and white photos actually makes me want to get out there again ... sporting the IIIa and a 50, of course.

Great shots, I love No. 3, a lot of rhythm in the composition.

+1. All of the color shots are pleasing but #3 really stands out. Were these taken with the Summitar?

Thanks all. For the gear-curious, of the color shots #1 & #6 were with the Canon 28/2.8, all others with the Summitar.

As promised, the B&W set.

Love that first one. The little bird makes it. I took many photographs on those steps two years ago until I had the one I wanted. No sun that day. Yours is a beauty. The old city is endlessly fascinating for a photographer.

Very nice indeed. I do not find myself saying this very often but I love the color work even better than your B&W.
Really enjoyable.

Thanks again to all for the kind words. It's taken me far too long to update this thread, but life gets in the way sometimes. In any case, here's a few more, better late than never I hope. This time it's critters. As before, everything with screwmounts Leica and either the Summitar 50/2 or the Canon 28/2.8, HP5+ or Portra 400. Enjoy.

The title of the post is sure sexier than "In the south of France with Minoltas".
These are excellent pictures.
I think Minoltas were very sexy tools as well and Minolta did excellent cooperation with Leica in the days.
