Industar 22 contrast

I am shooting an Industar 22 on my Zorki 2S using Fuji Neopan 400 (C41 processing) and the results are very contrasty. Is this a particular feature of the lens and is there any way of minimising the contrast.

Would there be another less contrasty LTM for the Zorki?

The I-22 has much more contrast than the equivalent Elmar f3.5. NP400CN is contrasty too, I think the Kodak B&W CN (also 400) is less so. If you are scanning you can reduce the contrast in Photoshop.

I've tweaked the scan in both Photoshop and Aperture but struggle to find any mid tones. Foregrounds are good exposure but backgrounds tend to burn out.

I don't think it's regarded as high contrast by modern standards. Or even compared with Summicrons or Sonnars. Maybe it's the film combined with too bright lightning conditions?

Stephen, I've just shot the first roll of film with my I-22. It certainly is not as contrasty as my 40/1.4 - it has less contrast than my I-61. I think it's the 400CN film.

Chromogenic BWs tend to gain or lose contrast depending on the amount of exposure they receive.

I don't find the I-22 to render contrast significantly different than other lenses.

That has been my experience with chromogenic B&W. I was never able to get the kind of tonal range I wanted out of these films. It is what finally prompted me to start developing my own again after many, many years.
