I've found a used bessa-r for a decent price. Can I use the industar-61 from my Fed5 on it? I know the mounts are the same, but I've read some stuff about alignment issues.

Awesome, thanks! I'm definitely going to grab that bessa then. I haven't tried Ilford yet. I can really only get tmax around but thought about ordering some. I'll have to check it out.

I've got an I-61 L/D that came with a FED 3 and I've tried it on my Bessa-R without any focus issues. I attached an example shot wide open. The original scan of the negative has a much higher resolution but this gives a good indication of what the lens can do. Personally I find it harsh and prefer the slight softness of the Jupiter 8.

Greg

The focus issues only become apparent at f-stops less than 2.0 thanks to DOF hiding the problem. Thus the Jupiter 8 & Industar 61 don't exhibit the problem. Since your I-61 is from a Fed 5, it's more than probably a I-61 L/D (the best version of the lens, IMHO, of course.) It's a marvellous Tessar type design and with the recalculation and coatings the FSU used it really is almost too sharp in many circumstances. Give it a good workout on the kinds of things you like to shoot and make sure the results are what you want - looks wise anyway 😀 A good Jupiter 8 is an exquisite lens as well, so give it some consideration.

Hope this helps,

William

Thanks guys! I ended up ordering a new body from cameraquest. It should be here in a few days! I can't wait. Now I just need to save up for that heliar 12 or 15 and I'm good to go.
