Inspirational: Photos by Henri Cartier-Bresson

Great link, thanks! Confirms my long time feeling that he was not only a great photographer (one of the best!), but in the right place at the right time, often.

I've never seen the appeal of his images myself, but inspiration comes in many packages. Seems like he has had an awfully long ride at the top on a very few photographs.

I thought he only used Cron 50mm, i.e. a normal lens. But some of those sure look like wide angles to me. am I wrong?

There are prints of many if not all of these images at the HCB exhibit that's currently making its way around the country. If it's even mildly feasible for you to get to see it, you should drop everything and go. Talk about inspiration.

Nope, you are right, 28`s and 35´s and some seem to have shot with a 21. He never claimed that he used solely a 50...

Thanks for posting, very nice. I'm looking forward to the HCB exhibition in San Francisco, opening later this month.

@sepiareverb

I accept the fact that in art most things are in the eye of the beholder, but I would rather say the contrary, assuming that one appreciates HCB style, I believe he has made an outsized number of masterpieces in his life. I would be willing and interested to know, which photographers give you a kick, and have equally numerous masterpieces from which to learn.

Thank you for the link, kmallick. I think he is the complete photographer, in that he had a wonderful sense of the elements that would make a great picture, regardless of whether it was a quiet night in with the missus, or the announcement of the death of a great leader. There are so many photos here I hadn't seen before, and they all display the trademark ability to capture something other than what at first glance you would assume the picture is about.

I just flicked through a few pages either side of the HCB blog and have got to say that this is an OUTSTANDING pictorial blog. I really can't recommend this too highly!
