Actually, go plug those numbers into one of the online inflation calculators and see what those prices equal in 2007 dollars and you'll find them to not be so low as it seems. These were never low cost items... :bang:

Yes, I`ve seen this ad......but Leica`s were always expensive, or at least always had good trade in values for use for new equipment buys
(like the Volkswagen of the camera world)

a 1945 Leica IIIC K cost about $120 new.....sold for about $200 in 1965 and in 1985 over $1,000 and in 2005 about $2,000 ever a good appreciation if I ever saw one.....the M3 has also been as good a winner as well, the M4 is the next big gainer, and the IIIG has already made it, years ago....last but not least will be the M6 which will as I can see, also be a big gainer like the M3 is, while good examples will be hard to find in 10 years

Get hold of a 1939 copy of "The British Journal Photographic Almanac". In there, you'll find adverts for Leica (or "Leitz of London", to be exact), the Leica Standard costing £18 5s.

Do the same for the 1947 edition...

That`s not something printed by the factory after 1945.....seems that you are missing my point, the British and Americans printed articles about the Leica up the 1939 and 1941 respectively until each country was at war with Germany, my point was the factory does`nt recognize the history of the factory between the years 1939 and 1945

I live in the Chicagoland area. In 1972 I worked at Altman Camera Company. At that time the Leica "Special" was an M2-R w/ 50mm F.2 Dual Range Summicron for $327.95, new in the box.

Those were the days.
