Interesting Modification on 35mm Summilux 1970 Version

Saw this listing and was amused by the almost hacked together tabs the lens was modified with. Very unusual.

Was actually wondering that myself. Maybe an attempt to have a more pronounced grasp on aperture control?

The lens has a very intriguing look to it though, and not a bad price.

I've seen very similar items at the Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda -- hence I presume it's been modified for a photographer with a prosthetic hand.
