Interesting opinions about RFF

How can you judge a site's content off of one post in someone’s journal? That would be like me judging this site off a single post like "Slow night any topic" doesn’t have much RFF related info in the post, so could I assume that this forum isn’t a great place for RF users? Not likely, I enjoy the better of both sites.

Just my .02

oh yeah FrankS, there's most certainly some rediculous posting on DevArt, and that played a large part in me wandering off to other venues (Flickr, then FredMiranda, and now loving RFF)... I watched Coxi mature from a decent person to a horribly narcissistic(sp?) beast from Austria, who loved the attention and hated the people giving it to him... bleh!

there are some good people on DevArt, but i try to stay away for the most part.

If you are going to post on a messageboard and make comments about someone elses work, I think it's only fair to accept that they may comment about you as well. Maybe Chris' comments are a bit harsh for some, but if you are going to dish it out you better be willing to accept what ever comes back at you.

Personaly as I said in the other thread, overall I liked the work. I didn't like all of it but no one ever likes ALL of a persons work. There are some HCB and Ansel Adams pieces that I think are complete crap but hey to each his own.

Regarding DA, some of the people there are complete assholes its true. But then I've come across some here I don't like either. I listen to who I want and ignore the rest.

I still don't understand how people can get so worked up over the internet! You have to expect that people tend to lose that "filter" they have when dealing with people face to face.

cking, that's true, but I am just trying to fathom the reaction of Chris to some criticism of his article. He operates in a different milieu over at dA where posts like the one I copied are present. Relative to that, his reaction to criticism of his article was actually mild, while with me being used to RFF, his reaction came across as extreme: naming everyone who posted negatively and dissing their photography skills in his blog.

I'm done with it.

I just read the pdf and I actually thought it had some interesting stuff in it.
I also think it's great that 12 year olds now have creative outlets like that.

On the positive side this made me re-discover dA (a site I completely forgot about a long time ago) and I'm off to register.

@Marc-A.:

well, if i read his article and knew his style of writing i wouldnt expect anything else as a response when calling a described shooting technique cowardly.

for that hip shot: i tried it too. man i still suck at it. but no one said that it doesnt take practice. actually it takes a lot of it. shooting without framelines knowing your field of view by heart.
i like your shot. its pretty good. good composition is hard to achieve when shooting from the hip. with a bit more practice i'm sure you could do some great shots from the hip. shots you werent able to take with th camera at your eye.

Actually hip-photography is not very hard at all.
I tried it out for, I think, the first time a few months ago.
Took about 10 shots and got 3-4 keepers.
Here's one:

I'd do it again - simply because it was pretty fun and adds an element of 'surprise' when you get your film developed.

I did however notice that I felt less 'proud' of any of these images - I guess for me deliberate composing and framing 'means' more than getting lucky shooting from the hip. To each his own. Or her.

well, the part of learning includes getting rid of that "luck-factor". i also had some good shots when shooting from the hip, but i still have too many wasted frames. my aim is to really know my field of view without a viewfinder.

btw, really nice shot! where did you take that shot? she looks exactly like a friend of mine 😉

I think it was all good natured fun. No one got hurt. Some bricks were thrown at, and some were thrown back.

If you live in a glass house ....

Hilarious actually.

Interesting article. I'm only half way through it.

(Do I dare point out that the correct spelling of the synonym for preface is "foreword"?) 🙂 {ducking, running, and looking for a place to hide} 🙂

Edit: Why was the word h-i-d-i-n-g bleeped out?

ARRRRRRRRRR MATEY!
Avast! we must man the Leicas and get back outside on the decks, exelling out Delta and Acros once again!

(in other words, it was an amuzing debate/topic, but lets get back to business)
