Introducing Fuji X100S

I love Fuji 🙂

Although, I really hope they updated that Menu/OK button on the back of the X100...to something bigger and easier to press.
 
Sounds interesting in theory, the digital split screen focusing that is. In practice we'll see. Could be badass. And by badass I mean, you know...
 
No mention of a black version in the press release, only 'steel'. But rest assured, if you want a black version, you only need to wait an extra year and a limited edition black version will appear, complete with fancy box, filter, leather case and strap.

This camera sounds so good, but I'm just really wary of this X-Trans sensor. I'm yet to see a good raw processing solution that doesn't involve Silkypix (ugh) or a chain of obscure converters and sharpeners.

The digital split screen sounds intriguing, and the much improved video mode might be a winner. If Adobe can produce good results with X-Trans files, then I might consider upgrading.
 
Question to the x100 owners: based on the suspected spec's and assumed good performance would you trade-in/sell your x100 for the x100s?.... Thanks Dan'l

here are the latest specs I have seen:
ncrease resolution by approx. 25% (*2) and reduce noise by more than 30% (*3). Clear images with minimal graininess, even at high ISO settings, can also be produced, thanks to the removal of the optical low pass filter and the introduction of a more powerful processor.

The newly-developed X-Trans CMOS II sensor has built-in Phase Detection pixels which provide the X100S with the world’s fastest AF in as little as 0.08 seconds (*1). Additionally, the EXR Processor II offers very speedy response times with a start-up time of approx. 0.5 seconds (*4), and a shooting interval of 0.5 seconds. Plus with its shutter time lag of only 0.01 seconds, it allows you to react quickly and capture each precise moment you want to with no missed photo opportunities.

Also new to the FUJIFILM X100S is the world’s first (*5) “Digital Split Image” feature, which displays dual images on the left and right to be lined up for manual focusing. This enables accurate focusing especially when working with an open aperture or macro shooting. What’s more there is a handy Focus Peak Highlight function, which shows you precisely which area of your composition is in focus.

This looks like a no-brainer upgrade...and I have a couple of family members who have been trying to make off with my X100 since I got it. After the firmware upgrades and a trip to Fuji for the sticking aperture problem, there's only one thing I really dislike about the camera and that's how easy it is to accidentally dial in unwanted exposure comp. If that's fixed in the X100s, all the other cool new stuff is just gravy to me.

this seemed to have been fixed with later model X100, mine has the same clicky feel of the shutter speed dial and is not easy to knock around

That's easily fixed by using a rubber 'O' ring under the dial itself. Another tiny 'O' ring or two can be put on a soft release thread to stop the release unscrewing itself.
 
Heard about this on Friday via my connections at my local camera shop - should be very nice for those that like the X100 but the only concern is, will those folks take to the X-Trans sensor? One of the things folks liked about the original X100 was the sensor vs the X-Pro1.

Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

The new camera has on-sensor phase detection pixels -- which I think is how they are estimating distance and direction for the digital split. Presumably this cannot be added to the other X cameras as they don't have phase detect pixels.

I echo the poster above... give me a variant with a normal lens (45/50mm equivalent) and I'll buy one tomorrow!

I hope that they will at least backport focus peaking to X-Pro1/X-E1.
