Hello all. First let me say that I have been reading here for a short time and find it very informative. I look forward to enjoying more time here.

I am new to rangefinders; I purchased my first one today! I went with an inexpensive Ricoh 520M cds. I am certain it will the the first in a long line of RFs to come!

I was hoping someone on this forum was familiar with this camera. I did some online searching but could not find what I was looking for. I did find a site selling the manual but I can't shell out $36 for it.

What I can't figure out is how to set the film speed dial. The window is located on the underside on the lens, and there is no apparent ring to adjust it. Needless to say, I do not want to force anything! If it helps, the lens is a Rikenon F2 48mm. Thanks for looking!

Welcome Lobster!

Perhaps your camera sets the film speed from the DX code on the film cartridge? Some autos have this feature. Enjoy the forum!

Well, I figured it out and it is embarrassingly simple. It just required very little pressure, and I was too tentaive at first to use any amount force.

Welcome to the forum Lobster. You're going to love it here except for one thing. GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). 🙁

Others here can tell you of some of the symptoms. Unfortunately, there is no known cure at this time. However research continues and we aren't giving up hope. 😀

This Japanese website has a series of photos of the Ricoh 520M EE, I think it's the selenium meter version of your Cds camera.

Frequently the film speed is set by depressing a small metal or plastic tab on the same lens ring as the filmspeed window. While holding the tab down you rotate a ring. That brings in the correct film speed. Look for a small slot on the ring somewhere. Sometimes the tab gets broken off and only the slot will remain.
