Hello everyone,

Russian camera user/collectors and Russian camera lovers
I would like to invite you all to participate in an ambitious web project. I am part of called, USSRPhoto.com. This web site is the creation of several world wide Soviet / Russian camera collectors, working together to create a central comprehensive resource, covering many areas of this field all in one place.

The web site and the information on it will be maintained by the member - collectors themselves. Think of it as an expanded Wikipedia, but strictly for Russian / Soviet photographic equipment and all related material, new transformations, editions and equipment done for them . The site also includes a general Soviet / Russian camera forum for member discussion of many topics, and a Collector's Resource area where there are links to collections, historical information, buying and selling resources, repairing and camera seller reviews.
This web project is completely free of charge and is open to anyone who wants to participate. You need only to be registered if you want to contribute to any of the section of the web site.
The website I am talking about consists of 3 sections:

* A Wiki-style Catalog of Soviet/Russian Cameras - this section can be edited or added to by any user who registers on the website. This Wiki Catalog will feature information on each Russian / Soviet camera model and manufacturer, as well as the rare, the prototypes and unique examples that are not often seen. Any entry concerning Soviet / Russian camera production or history will be welcome.
* A User-Maintained database of Camera Collections, Soviet / Russian equipment dealers, eBay Sellers and Online Stores (with reviews and opinions the dealers).
* Discussion Forums - discuss a wide range of topics and sell, trade, modify or buy anything related to Soviet Photographic equipment.

We are hoping to build a tightly knit community of Soviet/Russian camera collectors and freely exchange information and ideas in this subject.

Please visit and register on www.ussrphoto.com, we hope to see you there!
You will love it!

Hello Luiz, this sounds interesting. I had collected a fair amount of lens information for my project the Russian Lens Database, unfortunately the site is down but I still have kept the resources (database, datafiles, photos, sql dump) so I might put those online in a while, as soon as I am settled with my future new job/apartment)
regards,
max

Hello Luiz,

Thanks for the invitation. I like the design of your site. The big letters are easier to read without glasses.:D I have just joined.

Cheers,

Zhang

Quite a number of pages contain text from other websites, such as fedka.com; I think this could be problematic in the long run. Once I'm back from the FSU I'll definitely write a thing or two myself.

information

Nice looking site.
But some of your information dosn't correlate with other previously published figures. I'd like to know where the 53,000 Junosts info comes from, as Princelle's gives around 20,000 produced and he only printed figures he could confirm. i believe his information came from the factory itself in the early 90's. Also some cameras are implausable. The Smena stereo I have seen on the markets in Kiev, It is two Smenas glued together by a local guy, can you authenticate the one on your site as having come from the factory?

Luiz:
I´ve tried to register at ussrphoto.com either bringing my yahoo mail address with no results. The return link to confirm my registration led to an error message. I´ve done it again bringing at this time my gmail email address (and another new nick) and had the same results.
Can you do something?
Thanks in advance, and if needed, email me.

Ernesto,

I've noticed your post.. For some strange reason the forum software discrimates on some email addresses.. I've had about 8 people in queue who got stuck at email confirmation step.. I've activated all the pending accounts so you will be able to log in now.

All others:

To address a few questions: Smena Stereo is the factory version, possibly a prototype though, it is from the photo museum of Viktor Suglob in Minsk Belarus, he will be releasing a new Soviet Camera catalog later on this year and it will be featured in it.

The #s on the amount of cameras released are taken from Sovietcams.com, I will ask Aidas (the owner of the site) where these numbers are taken from. It may be from 1st edition of Princelle? Not sure.. Since it is a Wiki catalog, you are more than welcome to log in and edit an entry. That's why it's called "Wiki". Anyone can add and edit any entry! There is no single authority behind the information displayed on the site, the authority are all the users on the site, that is why if you see something wrong, just log in and make a change. You can always look up revision history for the entry and contact the person who is posting the incorrect data in case you want to discuss it, or post a thread ona forum for discussion. Be active, in other words, the information will be incorrect unless you point it out! That's the whole point of the project.

Thank you for compliments on the design! It is still work in progress with many more features to come that I think will please a lot of collectors.

rxmd: we had already addressed the issue of taking other websites as sources, everything is 100% percent consented and donated by site operators themselves. please see the thread at http://www.ussrphoto.com/Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=50
for more info.

To all others, I would love to see you participate in this fast-growing project, please email me at forementioned address if you encounter any more registration problems. We already have 220 cameras in our catalog (in 3 weeks!! ) and it keeps growing. Hopefully with corrections and additions by collectors themselves this will because a de-facto catalog of soviet equipment online.

Best regards,
Vladislav Kern

I got stuck also at my AOL address a few days ago. When I tried to complete regrestration I kept getting that 404 page error. I'll try again.

Excellent! That is odd though, I will test the email confirmation funcitonality some more.. thanks for letting me know.

Vlad.
