iPhone 7, who's getting it?

Another strong contender is the Note 5. I use that when I'm traveling. The stylus comes in handy more than I imagined. It is a bit of a transition from using the iPhone at home though...
I love the stylus to take note of my lens settings, etc when shooting large format. It's great for that and foryquickly writing down locations you spot in your day to day traveling. Wouldn't buy another phone without it.

Ah silly me! 😱

Reviews of the buds have been saying ...

Even sillier than your last statement. "Reviews of the buds" ... reviews on a product that will not be available in release form until October.

Moreover, with respect to the AirPods, I don't care about multiple pairings, registration over iCloud, or any of that crap. I care about good sound and no wires, easy connection to my iPhone so that I can listen to music, audio books, and talk on the telephone.

With respect to the wired headphones, I could care less about any of that stuff as well. I don't need headphones when I'm charging ... I'm asleep when my phone is charging. And even with listening to my iPhone 6 all day when I'm working, and using it for voice and txt communications, and hunting up web links, and all that other nonsense, it always gets plugged in for its nightly charge and back up with 35% or more battery left over.

Get a life.

Not a fan of losing the headphone jack. I have been known to charge the phone and listen to my headphones at the same time. Former iPhones had the jack on the top of the phone, which I think would have been the way to go if internal space allowed. Then again, with the billions in fines that Apple is facing for tax evasion, I can see why they'd want their customers to have to purchase new proprietary headphones that are compatible with their phone.

Also, my 6 works great.

The silly part of that statement is that the iPhone 7 comes with both the Lightning port equipped headset as well as the dongle that lets you plug your existing audio-jack'ed headset into it. So Apple isn't making any money on selling iPhone 7 headsets to anyone... unless they are people who want more than one Lightning headset. ;-)

Also note that the iPhone Lightning Dock allows you to charge your phone while also listening to music with your audiojack'ed or wireless headset.

(I'd also prefer it if the power button and the headphone jack on the iPhone 6 were on top, rather than side and bottom. But I've accommodated to it now.)

...Except that the entire US press got to play with and listen to them during the launch event..

Yes, early production hardware with not-yet-GM software. I know all about it. 🙂 Such reviews are no better than the silly reviews of camera equipment I read all over the net. Entertainment only, far as I'm concerned.

Remember, I've been in this business, at this company, for 25 years.

There are much less expensive wirelsess buds available now. (Gf got a nice pair from amazon for ($59).... They sound good and the mic works great.

I wonder how much "better" the apple airpods will be. ($159).
$160 is a bit od dough for something so easy to lose or damage.
I'm not cheap about my ears but... I don't think it's smart money considering the vulnerability of such a device.

I have two sets of wireless headphones already. Both top of the line quality, with good sound and reasonably reliable operation, good battery life. They work well.

The thing about them that I'm always annoyed by is that they still require I have a stupid wire around my head that catches on clothing, on my camera strap, on my bag strap, and are occasionally jerked out of my ear by something or other. They are also 'in ear' designs that I can wear for a maximum of an hour or so before my ears are tired of the intrusion.

The AirPods have the same shape as the EarPods ... which I can wear for hours with no annoyance. If they have the same sound quality, they will be terrific to listen to. And they don't have a wire to catch on anything. That's why I'm excited about them, and hope they'll work as well as I imagine.

I agree the price is high, but really don't care if they work as desired. I've got many many many objects of similar value and size. Haven't lost one of them yet.

Just wondering, arent airpods 'in ear' design too?

Don't want to get a brain tumour from the ear pods.

And will not support a billion dollar corporation that thinks their fair tax rate should be zero %.

So yeah, guess I'm not in the market...

No, 5C still going strong enough here. I don't use headphones/earbuds at all with the phone, so don't care about the lack of jack. I might get the small 6 if it comes down in price and my 5C gets any worse.

Thanks Godfrey. Im most a Over-Ear Headphones guy, dont really like to put things inside my ears, not even on the outer portion.

I understand.

Headsets are truly personal things. I've owned one set of over-ears that I could wear all day, the rest cause me itching and annoyance within a half hour. Others I know can't tolerate earbuds at all and wear over-ear headsets all day. The buds that I can enjoy for an entire day give my buddy hives, etc. I'm thankful there are so many choices in these things ... It's one area where they're truly needed!

It will be nice to be able to afford it, I hope, at sometime.

Am on market for new phone, but no phone is worth 700usd/eur to me personally. Most likely it's OnePlus 3 or iPhone SE.

I have an iPhone 6, but not purchased, won it at a draw. Quite an useful tool, but I'm not leashing 600€+ for such a thing. Specially with the rapid depreciation and deterioration, however, the obselescence curve has flattened a bit recently.

In a few months I should send it to overhaul and replace the battery. When it gives up the ghost, It'll be maximum 300€ for a decent phone and the rest towards film, processing and flights.

EDIT: With Godfrey's discussion about earphones, I should buy decent HiFi cans. Long overdue, to listen at home. I actually never got the habit of listening music out of home or commuting. Just podcasts.

Obviously, Huss, that's a legal disclaimer from an iPhone rather than from the AirPods. And the numbers they show on the page they point to show that the output specifications of the iPhone are well under the legal and tolerable limits.

I'm not sure what your point in showing it in this discussion is all about.

I bought my iPhone 4S at the end of the product cycle and used it extensively for several years. Sold it then for half the purchase price. I bought the iPhone 6 near the end of its product cycle too, and will likely use it until the 7S or 8 comes out. I expect it will retain its value well and net good value for use as well. I can't complain about the value proposition ...

I can't use my external speakers at the office or in public spaces, that's why good headsets are important to me. I use them mostly for books and podcasts. And the phone. Music is secondary. 🙂
