Is 28/2.8 Elmarit Type 4 much sharper than Type 3?

I am still looking for a 28mm lens. Got the CV 15 and 75 although haven't used the 75mm much, other than for some family portraits.

So I am torn on the 28 - my choices, it seems, are the Ultron, the Elmarit, and the priciest of them all, the Summicron. I must say, the Elmarit has made an impression on me. Plan to borrow and test the Ultron, then decide. This is so much fun 😀

Well, I guess I will find out firsthand about the 3 vs. 4 sharpness - my new used Elmarit 28 version 4 is shipping tomorrow. This is one very happy camper 😀

My M bag is rather humble compared to many, many I've seen around here 🙂.

28 Elmarit v4h, 35/2 Summicron v3, 50/2 Summicron v2, 50/2 M-Hexanon, CV 15, 25, 35/1.7, 75, and a J12. I wil probably sell the 25/4, the J12, and depending on how I like the 35/2 Summicron, I might get rid of the CV 35/1.7 but I like that lens a lot, so not sure yet.

The 28 Elmarit v4 showed up suddenly between two consecutive ebay searches. The seller posted his phone number so, seeing it was v4 and nicely priced, I called him and struck a deal. It was Kevin from kevincameras.com. The only bad part is waiting for the mail...

Probably not for a while, I love this lens. I almost got the 28mm Hexanon too but the Elmarit won out for now 🙂 It is such a shame that the Hexar RF is no longer.

I sold my 35 Ultron when I got my 35 Summicron and ended up buying another Ultron. Think hard about that one before you sell it. The Ultron handles much differently than the Summicron, for me much better. This is not taking anything away from the Summicron, if I could only have one it would be the Summicron, but the Ultron is a close second.

Yep, I've made the mistake of selling good hardware before, to my later chagrin. The Ultron is a pleasure to use and I find it quite forgiving of my amateurish mistakes. I just might slap it on the Bessa R permanently.

Does anyone know which type is the Elmarit-M 28mm? Type 3 E49?
It comes with a 12536 hood.

My questions are
1. The s/n is on the aperture ring, it is different from my friend's Type3. Are they
different versions?

2. Does the 12536 hood have a hole on the left that you can see the view when
you look into the camera?

Bergen County Camera had the 28mm Elmarit and the 35mm Summicron version 3. Someone beat me to the Elmarit but I just snatched the Summicron! One more lens to go and I am set 🙂

I think I beat you to the Elmarit, If we're talking about the same one that is.
Coded Ver III, E49, are we talking about the same one?
