Is it just me, or are M-body prices creeping up?

The prices are certainly rising. Glad I picked up my M6 TTL locally 6 months ago. Got it plus a 35mm f2 ASPH and 90mm f2.8 for $1800. Sold the 90mm for 1K so the M6 and 35mm cost less than $900!

I also noticed prices rising... and it prompted me to get a Leica of my own before it went up further. I got my M4P (very very nice condition) & 50mm Summicron outfit for 1400, which seemed reasonable enough.

I just checked the prices at KEH.com for M-bodies, out of curiosity. Almost had a heart-attack! M6 bodies in BGN condition for $1429? Seriously??? BGN-rated M3's for around $900?

Wow.
If you think that's bad, they're trying to sell an EX+ 50 'cron for $2289. You can get it new for less if you don't mind waiting for a long time.

Not just Leica prices, also Hasselblad and Nikon. I've been keeping an eye on prices at KEH and they are definitely higher than they were at Christmas.

I bought a BGN grade M2 for $725 in November and last week the BGN M2s were selling for $959!

FM2N in BGN grade were $133 and now are $199 too...crazy

I did a lot of ebay history research for various Leica, Canon, Nikon, and Mamiya bodies and lenses over the past couple of weeks trying to decide what sort of camera I wanted to buy (decided on M3). It does seem that prices on used film gear are creeping up steadily. I compared current prices to average ebay prices mentioned on Ken Rockwell's site from 2009 and 2010, and many good old lenses have close to doubled in price since then.

I've noticed this too, as I've been lurking eBay for the occasional steal.

I bought my M6 just shy of three years ago for $1000. Looking at the prices now (and after loving the camera for three years) I am realizing what a steal it was!

I noticed a glut of Leica gear in midst-recession 2008. Now that things are recovering, I think it's only natural for prices to inch up.

Maybe it's just that with new prices being so high people are turning to the used market. $5000 for a new M7 vs. $2899 currently over at KEH means that even at today's prices it's still a $2100 savings.

I've been mainly lamenting the apparent price increase of some M lenses (various 35/50mm cron and luxes mostly).. but I have to say now that you mention it, that M bodies seem to have crept up also.

There could be many reasons, but one is that the world economy is now in much better shape than it was 2 years ago. Employment is recovering, people are feeling more confident in spending money etc...

My unscientific tests suggests that January is a good time to buy an M3 on ebay, and April is a bad time. Lets see what summer brings.
Canon Ps and 7s seem to be getting more expensive as well.

Maybe it's springtime!

From everything I've seen over the last few months, there are a lot of buyers from the mainland (China) buying up anything and everything with a vintage German name on it...
