Is it worth to repair G2?

I have and use both G1 & G2. Neither is black. Both work w/o issues and are cosmetically in excellent condition. Neither of these cost the repair prices posted. Both models, incl green label G1 (~$100), are readily available. Seems to me as the OP's quandary is an issue of sentiment/body color. Is it really a complicated issue? No disrespect intended.

My M8 is black while my M9 is "chrome" or whatever it is. My lenses are maybe 75% chrome and the other 25% of my lenses are black. I don't care which colors they are. This is not a fashion show. Not for me.

Tools comes i various sizes and colors, as long as they do what I try to do it's fine with me.
You might have other options, fine with me. I only see the results.

it's a beautiful camera - if it gives you pleasure, and you get good use out of it, if you intend to keep on using it, I'd say go ahead and repair.

I love mine, it is beautiful to use and returns fantastic images. I know it is going to break one day, but I would repair.

Champagne G2 body with black lens are not pleasant..:)
Buy another black G2 if the cost less than 300.

I would definitely disagree with that!

Thank you for all comments. I still did not decide what to do. I am looking for another repair tech as one of you mentioned above.

Thank you for the suggestion. Yes, it is definitely good thing to know the service history for the camera. But I still have hard time to justify myself to spend $400+ for repair. Champaign G2 is going around $300 or less sometime. I believe there is no difference between champaign and black G2s other than the color, right?
I had a black one for a while. While it was really beautiful, it would get covered with fingerprints if I wasn't careful. I sold it and have owned many different titanium ones since.Besides; the black lenses are more expensive, and harder to find.

I didn't want to create another thread, so I shall just tap onto this....

Browsing the Contax G thread on the images, I am smitten by the 35/2 and 45/2. I don't know why, but I am drawn to the idea that I need a G2. I have lots of 35mm cameras, and I don't see why I need another (G2).

I already have the Hexar AF (35/2), an M2 (35/2.8 Summaron, 35/1.4 Voigtlander), Nikon F100 (35/2AFD). Why would I need the G2 (35/2 or 45/2). This is insane.

Would anyone be able to share about mechanical issues the G2 faces in terms of reliability?

Thanks much!

Feel like I'm gunna cry....both my Hexar AF and Contax G2 bit the dust in the same week!

My G2 is working fine...EXCEPT and this a big except, the focusing motor is weak and cannot focus at anything 0.7m or closer. I can actually hear it struggling to grip the lens. I tested with 3 lenses, all the same issue. (Also tested all 3 lenses on a backup G1 body I have and they all focused fine)

Also, when I hold the camera facing down, it will sometimes lock focus when using the 45mm but never when I hold it facing up. So this kinda confirms it's a weak motor. It can't hold against the gravity.

I'm based in Bangkok....does anyone know where I could repair one in this day and age?

Send it to Nippon Photo Clinic in New York City. Idk why the OP said he was looking for another service shop when he had already gotten a quote from them - they do great work and I wouldn't trust anyone else. They are also one of few authorized Contax repair shops in the world left, if there are any others. They've done great work for me on my G2 twice and are very quick with their turnaround time. The shipping might be expensive for you, but it will be worth it.
