All,

I recently purchased a user M4-P (good condition with only a few small marks) that happened to also appear to be a 70th Anniversary 1913-1983 version with appropriate markings on the back. Though I bought it only to be my second user (to complement my M6), I researched this "special edition" to discover that the 70th Anniversary M4-Ps were identified with normal serial numbers on the hot shoe with additional marking of "L, E, I, C, or A" along with a number from 1-500 engraved on the back of the top plate, underneath the words "Leica 1913-1983".

Though my serial number is appropriately in the 1619XXX area, linked to 1983, my engraving on the back is "I" with the number 585. Since Stephen Gandy's site (as well as others) point out that this was a run of 2500 cameras, 500 for each letter of LEICA, it would appear my 585 has something amiss.

Either this is a counterfeit 70th Anniversary edition (which I don't care much about since it'll be my user) or it's a mis-print on Leica's part, or they made more than 500 per letter.

I welcome any thoughts/ideas/insight/knowledge others may have. I've attached a few pictures (I hope this works) for you to see.

Thanks,

Josh
