Is that a .... ?

I've been asked weird questions about every camera I've ever owned.

With the Mamiya 645, people mostly ask me if it's a Hasselblad. Once, I replied, "No, it's a Mamiya," to which the person said, "Oh, I didn't know Mamiya made Hasselblads."

An 8x10 Deardorff on a big wooden tripod is especially perplexing to people, as most of them largely can't seem to grasp *how* it could be a camera in the first place. Everyone was very impressed, though, when I let them look at the ground glass under the cloth. That thing was a lot of fun.

I was shooting in the studio one day. When I took out my M8 and was about to start shooting, my client looked very unhappy. I asked what was the matter with her and she replied "Did I pay a photographer $$ who uses a P&S camera??".

How did it turn out in the end?

Everybody I meet thinks my R-D1 is a Leica, and when I wind her up for the next shot, (after pointing out it´s same, same but different, and showing them the LCD screen) they nearly fall on the arses. I´ve only ever seen mine in real life, so they could be excused i suppose...

Very rarely do I see anyone with a Leica on the streets of Sydney. Then yesterday, as I took my M2 for a photowalk for the first time, I spot two other guys with Leicas! Fancy that.
