I have run a couple of roles through my recently acquired GS. The lights seem to work and the battery compartment wasn't very bad before I cleaned it.

Here is the problem though, when I shoot a roll of film I never know what I am going to get. Sometimes the amber light comes on and then, the next shot same conditions, the red light comes on and most of the time no lights  . Only a few occasions could I tell that the shutter speed was different from the exposure before. A couple of times I pressed the shutter release and it stayed open until I let up on the shutter release :bang: . My guess is that it is firing an it's default shutter speed most of the time and I get lucky with my exposures and the others the shutter actually works.

So do I need to replace this POD thingy?

Yup, seems to check fine. Sometimes I hear a little sizzle inside but I read on another post that it was a common thing.

Rats!

So the yashica guys site says to use neoprene plumbing washer. Is that the same washer that goes in my sink faucet? Is there a better material than that or is that the best to use? Also what is the best type of glue to use?

I know there are tones of threads on this so if there is one that anwers these already I am sorry for asking.

Welcome !

POD ! I DID MINE 2 MONTHS AGO !

Try to test glue a piece of the material that you are going to use as the replacement POD to similar metal surface area of the cameara to see if the glue and pad will work well togehter. If the formula is correct, its just a matter of getting the pad in place and then you will hear the famous yashica 'clunk' sound !!!!

Good Luck !

I did my POD about 3 weeks ago using the "Flanders Pin Method" by removing just the top cover. My Yashica had almost the same symptoms as yours. Took less than an hour and now the camera works great!

Check out the photos in my gallery. Good Luck!

All the best,

Michael
