Is this GSN Salvageabe?

I just visited one of my favorite local pawn shops where a gunsmith friend of mine had transferred, and found that they had a very clean 35 GSN that I could get for about nothing. But--the film advance lever is in the fully extended position and the shutter will not fire. There is no battery in it and the contacts look pristine. If I do one of the battery kluges with tinfoil and get a green light will the shutter then fire? If there is any way to salvage this camera I'd like to give it a new home. All suggestions will be appreciated.
 
I think it has a mechanical jam rather than an electrical failure (although it could be both)

It may be easily repairable, if not, it may make a great parts camera for when you find the reasonably functional GSn that looks all beat up.

Is there a roll of film in the camera? It may be at the end of the roll and not able to advance to cock the shutter.

If you get it for about-nothing, it´ll be a nice deal, also in the event you cannot make it work again.
Surely the problem is mechanical but, as Paul said, it can also suffer from POD disease.

Sorry Gray Fox cannot help with the repair problem, but the camera is Definitely worth saveing. You will be rewarded with some the best photos this side of a Leica.
 
Well, I got the camera today. Once I pointed out to the pawn shop owner that it was broken he gave it to me. It's actually a GS rather than GSN, and it is in very nice shape, except for its problems. The lens cleaned up nicely and there is no more than the usual haze in the viewfinder. the RF seems to be accurate. The film advance lever is at its fully extended position and the self timer lever is engaged all the way. It looks like someone who knew nothing about it just started pushing levers. I've tried the 6V battery and wad of aluminum foil and get no battery light and no other sign of life. I've pressed the button for film rewind, but cannot get the advance lever to move, and of course, the shutter lock is off. Any other ideas for fixes?

Does anyone have an idea how Mr. Hama's repair rates are?

James, thanks for the input. I just got an email from Mark Hama who quoted me the same fee to fix and CLA this one. It turns out he's on the north side of Atlanta and I'm on the southside. I guess I'll let him give it a try. I'll let all you folks know how it comes out.
