The film-advance mechanism on my Iskra has bit the dust. Time to get it modified with a ruby red window. Has anyone had this done recently? Recommended vendors? I'm sure Oleg would fix it -- does Fedka do this mod too?

I've recently acquired an Iskra with the mechanism still functioning, but for how long? I'm wondering what happened with yours, did it suddenly fail after years of faithful use? Did you have any indication it was going out, and do you have any idea of why it failed? I want to know what to watch for in mine (and any tips on what to do/not do).

I'd be curious to know what happened as well. Mine works quite well and I do tend to baby it quite a bit.

As for repairing yours, I'd ask either Oleg or Certo6 (I forget his real name). Certo6 did a nice job on my Ansco.

KZ, William, to tell the truth I'm not sure. It was having some framing problems with some overlap on the early frames, but it was working. I sold it to a young photographer I know in the States, explaining the overlap issue, but he was okay with that. When he received it, however, the film would simply pass all the way through, never stopping at frame one. He tried and tried but it never worked, so I bought it back from him. I suspect it took a hard ding during shipping.

Because Oleg did such nice work on my Zorki 3M, I'll see if he'll do the conversion.

Sorry to hear that Gene, the film counter feature in the Iskra is a mistery to me as mine came directly with the red window. It's a bit of a delicate camera in some points (the speed/aperture coupler on mine is a bit flimsy) but the lens is a killer.

Btw Gene, did your Zorki come with some extra thing in the parcel finally ?

The Zorki came back by itself. After my initial GAS I had TUMS (Take Urgent Measures Syndrome) and decided against adding a Kiev :D
