Italian C.O.M.A.F. Bectar Lens

Dear Folks:

Here is another interesting lens in my collection for the last little while. I have three pictures attached (and I will attach more over the next few days). Here is some info on this lens.

a) Lens head is marked 10,5cm f 3.5 Tessar and is not coated.
b) Barrel is marked with "C.O.M.A.F." and Italic "Bectar" together with the barrel serial number (different from lens head).
c) there is a engraving "Now" filled in white around the rim of the lens head.
d) the lens has rangefinder coupling cam.

I was told by a camera expert (luigi Crescenti) in Italy that C.O.M.A.F. was an Italian camera distributor and Mr. Crescenti himself has never seen this conversion.

I am wondering if this lens was an adapation of a Zeiss enlarging lens on a custom made barrel or not. The markings are interesting enough to start a new thread.

Looks like Rectar rather than Bectar to me, and by the Vademecum, Officine Galileo made a 2.8/50 Rectar, supposedly for the Rectaflex. That might be a regular Tessar (no enlarging lens - enlarging/process Tessars were 4.5 at the fastest, most were 6.3 or slower) converted to Rectaflex (by COMAF?) by re-using a barrel. Do you have any pictures of the lens itself?

Dear Sevo:

Thanks for the info. I think you are right that it is a Rectar instead of a Bectar. It is hard to see the bottom stroke. Here are some additional pictures for your reference. This lens is L39 coupled but I think Rectaflex used a different kind of mount. Do you have any idea when this was made?

Thanks. That's what I thought after getting some info. from Sevo. If that's the case, then there must be other lenses for this Recta.

LTM to M is adaptable. And just about every camera repair shop in the day could drill a hole for a grub screw and make a M adapter permanent...
