A friend sent me this link to Shorpy.com...they'd published a 1901 photo of Ithaca, NY, where I live...and he suggested I go find the spot and take the same picture. I know the spot well, it's pretty similar today. I stitched a few digicam shots together to try to approximate the look of the large-format camera that was doubtless use for the original...I think it worked pretty well...but that old picture is amazing...the photographer must have been a real pro.

Ithaca Gun is legendary! They are in fact tearing "The Gun" down right now...my friend, Frankie14850 on flickr, documented the ruins.

I love the Commons! It's great to have a space in the center that is off limits to motorized vehicles.
Love the detail in the old photo: horse manure on the street, fire insurance for sale, shop awnings, turn of the century styles...
