I've wanted a Leica for years, i love the X100 i've got, but, it didn't stop me wanting one.

So i just bought one!

Anything with the M8 and this len's to look out for? Its going to arrive on Tuesday, and i'm actually going to be in Paris the weekend after, so that should give me a good chance to test it out.

Excited, and a fully sick feeling in my stomach about spending that amount of money at the same time!

I know the M8 is a great camera and you will love it and I read and heard
that the Voigtlander are great lenses. The one thing the 35mm will be
around a 52mm or there about because of the smaller sensor but still
nice none the less.

Don't forget to buy your IR filter. Otherwise: happy shooting.

Range-Rover - thats why i got the 35, and not the 40 1.4 🙂

Jaapv - Most of my work is B&W so not too worried about the IR filter, but thanks!

Excited...

I have the slightly longer 40mm version of this lens and its a fine lens. If the 35mm is anywhere near as good you will be very happy. Sample image (note the pleasant bokeh)

I use the 35 Nokton on an RD-1, it works well.

I think the crop factor on an M-8 is 1.3x, so you should have an EFL of about 45mm.

Congrats on your purchase!

Well, the only way to scratch the "Leica Itch" is to buy one. Unless you just fall in love with rangefinder focusing, though, the X100 is a far more advanced tool. Smaller and lighter with better image quality. IMHO, of course.

Time to ask is before.

Make sure the back screen does not have coffee stain

Look at high iso and check for red lines

Buy the filter for color work

Check the RF for accuracy close and far. If found off, it could be the lens, not camera.

Don't worry about the camera, just go out and shoot. As others have said, if you want to make color images, you'll likely want the IR correction filter for the lens.

The Nokton 35/1.4 SC is single-coated and renders like an older generation lens. It will be lovely for B&W work in particular.

An afternoon's walkabout with the camera and lens should eliminate that feeling in your stomach. That is what it's all about.

Simon, I envy you... even though I already have that lens, but I envy the feeling of anticipation, the anxiety of the thing in the mail... and your trip to Paris! 🙂

Thanks!

Any thoughts on the Lens? Although, it's already on its way to me to little time to change my mind now!

Nice, that should be great then, on mine I use a Minolta M
28mm f2.8 and I'm really happy with the combo.

Better image quality? I highly doubt that. Megapixels aren't everything, or even particularly important at normal print sizes.

Megapixels aren't everything; but, advances in sensor technology are significant. And operational aspects of more modern cameras are important to lots of folks. As I said, though, the M8 is a relatively inexpensive way to scratch the Leica itch. If mechanical rangefinder focusing in a digital camera is your thing, Leicas are pretty much the only game in town.

Its Arrived!

Significantly heavier and larger than i expected it to be though.... Not really a bad thing though.

Unfortunately, english weather has kicked it and its raining like crazy outside so i can't go out to shoot 🙁

Also, i have near 20/20 vision, but the LCD in the viewfinder is awfully blurred? Any Ideas?
