New York January Meetup NYC

Scott, I have to correct you. it was not one woman, it was two, and then three.

How come the guy with the M9 gets three women (all young), and the guy with the M6 (me) only gets one hitting on him. I'm so jealous. LOL

For you guys at the other table. We were being stalked. Our neighbors inquired before they got drunk, "What's with all the cameras?"

As our meet-up proceeded it seems the attractive women felt slighted because were so self involved. And then our table was approached.

"Don't you think I'm pretty," a 27 year old blonde said to me.

"Your beautiful, and my girlfriend definately will not like you," I said.

"Why don't you take a picture of me then." That was when I learned her age. (Seemed like it didn't matter that I have a girlfriend)

I askled her, "Is a group of old guys with expensive cameras sexy?"

"Yes," she said, "very sexy."

Then the next thing I see is three girls hanging on Scott like he was getting mugged.

Damaso really knows how to throw a party.

For you guys that missed out. The gear laying around on the table was an obscene gear feast. No wonder the girls felt left out and ignored.

I asked Damaso how many people came, but with all the early leavers and the late comers it was impossible to count. Perhaps over 20 or more overall.

The work that was shared also was both impressive and inspiring.

I'm pretty sure the next gathering will be even bigger, and I talked with Damaso about how can we pull the next one off.

"We may have to meet earlier," he said.

BTW did anyone get a shot of the one member who stood on his Leica?

Some guy just happen to be walking by wearing a Leica and some of our guys dragged him in. (Real story).

Yes, I definitely see the angle Leica needs to spice up its advertising. 20+ year old girls hanging a ll over 60+ shooters........ (hmmmm, you have a silver one, nice).....

The first Meet-Up in December was perhaps 7-8 guys.

The second Meet-Up in January was perhaps 20+.

I had mentioned to Damaso that we kinda filled the space, and his suggestion was to meet earlier.

Pretty easy to imagine 30+ in the February Meet-Up. Maybe even 40+ if we get surprised again.

Now, already, on a seperate thread they are talking about meeting up in April or May at MOMA when the Henri Cartier Bresson show opens. More guys are even thinking of taking a trip to New York to get together and see the show. I see representation from the Tri-State area and Philly.

At this rate of growth, perhaps MOMA will have to impose a Leica restriction at the door.

I can easily visualize 50+ Leica thugs coming together and meeting at MOMA.

BTW as a door prize for the RFF member who traveled the furthest at the April or May MOMA Meet-Up I will give them a 100 feet of Ilford Pan F in an unopen box. Although dated mid 2007, it has been refrigerated storage all this time. Also included will be an old antique bulk loader that seems to be made of bakelite. The bulk loader is a nice trophy and does not seem to be functional. Perhaps you can figure out how to open it, because I couldn't.

Seems like we, all together, are starting one of those New York urban legends.

Since there is the BIG MOMA Meet-Up in April or May, I'd like to table a possible secondary event that would emphisize shooting instead of drooling over gear and drinking beer. I also want to avoid any possible scheduling conflict.

The end of May is BIKE NEW YORK A.K.A. the FIVE BOUROUGH BIKE TOUR. For those of us that are not familure with the event: once a year 47 miles of NYC streets highways and bridges are closed to cars, trucks, and motorized vehicles so that cyclists can take over the city.

The beginning is Battery Park, and the end is in Staten Island. The event is on a scale of the New York Marathon as over 35K cyclelist take over the streets, with a bit of a freak show thrown in.

I did this event three times in the past, because it was fun. Although it is 47 miles, it is not a race, and one can stop at anytime if they get tired. Free passage on the Staten Island Ferry back to Madhattan is included. Not sure if the fee is a tax deduction, because it supports Transportation Alternatives, a non-profit. Please consult your accountant.

I'm going to do this event again, but this time with a Leica and perhaps two lenses.

Pretty much the beginning is jammed with traffic and there are pile-ups, but the Varrizano Narrows Bridge is one long hill. If you want to scare yourself, its pretty easy to hit a terminal velocity of 50 mph coasting on the downhill.

I will be doing this event primarily for shooting. Would be interesting if we did this as a group project to document a one day event. As I remember, this is the biggest bike tour in the world.

Anyone interested in seeing New York in a very differant way?

I'm sure the Moma event will be packed, in fact I bet we could get a group discount! I will start a thread for net moth's meet up next week. Seems like some people want to work up a thirst by shooting first (I will pass) and then meet up for beers (I will join). I will suggest we actually meet in shifts so as to not overwhelm the poor staff 😱

Thanks for the posting. The shot was taken in dim lighting with the new 50/2.0 Nickel Heliar at 1/15 second. I am pleased by the results under such adverse conditions.

Now that we have done the forensics (developed film and scanned images) you check out the other shots on Scott's flicker. You will note in the indecisive moment Calzone slurred a series of six shots. The fact is he somehow merged the images of the three girls with the one that embraced Scott; and Scott, in fact, was only attacked by one girl and not all three. I guess Calzone listens to too much jazz.

You should also take note that the girl hanging on Scott's shoulder has a big diamond on her left hand.
