New York January NYC Meet-UP ( possible new uptown location)

Cal, any news on the MM?
What about the contact we met?

Jeff,

I've been bumped from number two to number one on the list. Evidently there was a delay lately due to a factory shutdown by Leica due to a holiday break. Generally my dealer gets 2-3 Monochromes delivered at a time, but this most recent delivery that bump me to number one is the first time they ever only received one camera.

Anyways already obsessed about getting a maxed out fully loaded Mac Book Pro, and I will be getting shortly an Epson 3880 to take advantage of a $250.00 rebate that ends on January 31st. Right away I'll be setting up this 17 inch wide printer with a Piezography inkset, so the entire unused K3 factory inks will be available to anyone who needs them.

I figure I will continue to go nuts with shooting as much B&W film as always. I contend if you want to be a good shooter it's all about shooting as much as you can.

That may open up a new category for the Pageant. :)

I'm thinking of expanding the NYC Meet-Up into "Gearfest 2013."

Already I have been contacted via PM to set the date for the Fourth Annual Beauty Contest because a newcomer wants to attend and wants to invite two friends from Philly. All I can say is these guys have some great unusual retro gear.

Might have to have John act as security (because he gets mistaken as a cop all the time) LOL when we go out shooting. Probably will take over the balcony area at Puck Fair to restrict access.

Looks like Phil will be back for a reunion, and we might be surprised and intimidated by a surprise showing from the large format guys. Now those guys are really crazy. LOL. Look out for those big heavy wooden tripods. I've been PM'ed by these guys also. LOL. BTW I had a wooden surveyor's tripod a while back that I "downsized" from an aerospace company. LOL.

I think at this rate their might be a disturbance in the force once you get that M9M Cal. You have a lot more patience than i do

Never was patient when I was younger and have been called a brute many a time. Just wait till you get old...

Anyways as John will tell you there's no shortage of camera in my house.

Anyways things are pretty crazy in digital. Been looking to get my butt kicked by jumping into Piezography. Although I just turned 55 I feel like its the 1970's and I'm back in art school doing way crazy things.

This crazy Epson will allow me to print both matte and glossy without changing inks. Looking into split tone printing. Also the workspace my girl is designing for us (well mostly me) is killer. Its great to have a wonderful workspace to loose yourself.

Also........ remember those beautiful NEC Monitor's we looked at; 24" and 27".

:)

In the early 90's I bought an East-German Berlebach wooden tripod in a Prague department store, for next to nothing. I used it for years with my first Linhof monorail. It had this great cine pan-head that was integrated in the design and non-removable. I can hardly believe I used to travel with that thing.
If I ever get hold of an old IMAX 70mm cine camera, I'll have something to mount it on.

Oh, but of course, but first I must take a beating like a man and learn how to use what I have and make at least a few nice/large 17 inch prints.

This thread is turning out to be a version of "Extreme Makeover" NYC Edition, where an old analog B&W film only shooter decides to get a little crazy because Leica it almost seems designed and built the ideal digital camera especially for him.

Next comes the tear down of a Madhattan bedroom that already is set up a a workspace, last night spent $1K for additional ELFA parts to make a bigger free standing digital work station that includes a standing desk as well as a seated desk. Friday I might buy the massive printer, but in the meantime I have to cull down some of my photographic XS to deal with "woman factor" and to mantain that clean modern look that is uncluttered.

Meanwhile this guy (meaning me) does not even have a digital camera yet...

BTW the addition of a wonderful NEC monitor already is designed into this new work station, just don't tell the girlfriend yet. LOL.

Anyways you guys from the NYC Meet-Up that know me knew that crazy things would happen when the rumors began with the Monochrome.

Back in the 80's a friend of mine suggested that I single-handedly downsized the fourth largest aerospace company in the U.S. because of all this stuff I "recycled."

I supplied another friend who was building a race car for drag racing with mil-spec hardware and aircraft parts. Basically looting and pillaging was a lot of fun.

This politically was all part of Reaganomics and a sinful waste of taxpayer money.

Hello
I'm a forum member in NYC
I plan to attend Sunday 's meetup if newbies are accepted and the initiation rituals are not too degrading
Look forward to meeting everyone

Good to see you will make it Philippe.
I figured you would be traveling abroad around this time.

i will plan on making it. this is a first time for me and might as well take advantage of it since i begin hectic classes again Tuesday.

any special rules for newbies? should we bring a camera? sorry if it was discussed previously. i scanned through the thread and still wasn't sure.

thanks, looking forward to meeting you guys.

Raphael, there are no rules. There are usually lots of cameras on the table, and we always like seeing something new. We aren't snobs either, we pretty much like everything. It really doesn't matter.

You can even come without a camera... eat and enjoy some drinks. It's not so serious of a meet-up.
