New York January NYC Meet-UP ( possible new uptown location)

yes, those brazilian steakhouses are so wonderful....my problem is getting lost every time I drive to Newark.

Lots of great places to eat and drink. Lots of industrial landscapes too...

Yummy. I shoot a lot of urban decay and industrial. Lived on the southside of Williamsburg over a decade ago before it was fully conquered by hipsters. LOL.

Also lived in a rather vacant part of LIC where I use to shoot a lot. Been in a lot of situations. Once a truck driver in Queens Plaza thought the Gossen Luna Pro light meter hanging around my neck was a detectives badge holder and I was mistaken for a cop.

Another time my Nikon F3P was mistaken as a pistol in Queens Plaza because I had it rigged with a handstrap and motor drive.

Only problem with shooting industrial landscape stuff in Newark, theres no subway.. A LOT of walking...

Fidel,

Ask John about "Death Marches" in high heat index weather. On a subway map the vacant area inbetween Brooklyn and Queens that streaches from LIC to Masbeth. No subways, no buses and no people. LOL.

Anyways John and I have done a lot of dumb things to get shots. LOL.

Cal

Yeah, lately, I've been doing my own winter death marches... Saturday I took the bus to Houston and whatever and then walked all over Chinatown and LES (a few hours), then went to Curry Ya (10th between 1st and 2nd), and then walked home to 79th St and York. When you like to pig out on bad food like I do, walks like these are important. Also, for my style of photography, walking is key.

Hi all,

The next NYC Meet-Up is going to be on the third Sunday, January 20, at Harlem Public.

http://www.harlempublic.com/ 149 and Broadway on the east side of the street.

The Meet-Up will begin at 1:00 PM. Cal will be there a bit earlier to reserve a place.

If anyone is getting together before the meetup that morning for a little photography in Harlem, let me know. I would like to join if there are no objections..

Doesn't help our long island / harlem / further north folks though. The brooklyn folks aren't clamoring for a brooklyn meet-up.

[*cough, cough*]

Y'know, we have *lots* of cool eateries/watering holes down here, not to mention the not-yet-hideously-gentrifided 'scapes of Red Hook et al. Just a thought for the future. (Parts of Harlem are almost as upscale-chic as Chelsea these days.)

Harlem Public is definitely a longer reach for me, but a fairly straight shot via subway, so if that make a critical (positive) difference for a number of people this time out, I'm on board. Hoping the place isn't jammed/noisy, which you'd think wouldn't be the case on an early Sunday, but be forewarned: Giants and Jets Fans are Different. (Closest I come to touching football is rooting for the Bills, the only real New York team of the bunch.)

Barrett, a brooklyn meet-up would be fine one of these days.

By the way, by the time Jan 20th happens, there isn't much football going on anymore. You pretty much have 4 teams left playing at that point. Most likely won't be the Giants or the Jets.

Jan 20th in Halam should work for me. Sorry guys for MIA. Have been busy between travel and work ... and holidays.

Cal, the 21mm Super Elmar f/3.4 did very well while I was traveling in Spain ... or I should announce !!!GEAR ALERT!!!

John,

Hope you will be around in February for our fourth annual beauty contest.

Perhaps maybe in January I might have my MM.

"Harlem Public, at 3512 Broadway between 148th and 149th. Trains are the 1, A,B,C, and D to 145th Street or the A or C to 155th Street; Jan 20th"

That works great for me. Actually more convenient, since I don't have to transfer.

Also, FYI the The Hispanic Society of America, Located on Audubon Terrace, Broadway between 155 and 156 Streets, (212) 926-2234, is an interesting museum. The entrance to the museum is an interesting place to shoot. They have some remarkable Spanish paintings, but the museum is not well known or crowded.

I'm going to get drunk and crazy... I mean, I look forward to seeing everyone and trying some different beers!

The address of Harlem Public is 3612 Broadway in case anyone use GPS. The direction above is correct (i.e., cross street with 149th).
