I read an article in the NYT yesterday about how Sony really needs a product that will be a home run, Not just the ground balls they've been hitting the last few years. Would a new camera be the big hit they're looking for? I know I would like it but what about the masses?

Sony had differently colored mockup EVIL cameras on display at PMA, didn't they?
I recall that the OLY M43 and Samsung NX prototypes also looked much different than the final products.
So maybe this is a Sony product after all and they are going after Canon by inviting well-known Canon users to test drive their new compact, low-light rangefinder system ??

It's a digital Zeiss Ikon with Sony CMOS sensor.

The trend is now towards mirrorless "SLR's" ala GF1 but applied to full size bodies. Since this rumour came from a Canon user and that the camera is FF I would say it is a mirrorless version of the 5D MKII with some sort of electronic rangefinder. It would be easy to do as the current model already has live view. If true then it can be a digital solution for R and many orphaned systems.
