Jeff Ascough under NDA for new Rangefinder

Who's the bigger fool? The fool (ascough) who started this? Or the fool who believed it and was sure that it would be Brand X, Y or Z?

Jeff Ascough is neither a fool nor is he the one who started this thread. It was UPhoto , probably one of his followers on Twitter.

Well, it is not Jeff, but the manufacturer manipulating him and the public to get some free buzz and publicity.

Phony marketing turns me off.

No one here is a fool for entertaining the notion that this rumor was true. It's entirely plausible, or at least it started out that way. Who wants to go through life never trusting anything they hear, always second guessing, always assuming they're being tricked? To hell with that. I'd rather live my life imagining that great things are possible.

This is why I loathe April Fool's pranks. Credulity is a virtue, not a fault.

F.O.O.L. ≠ April Fool's. Provocative yes, logical... no.

Hey everyone...

Jeff Ascough is definitely having a laugh at our expense, no doubt, but not necessarily because his (rather obviously fabricated for comic benefit) acronym for the framelines "L.O.O.F." somehow means that his tweets and strange blog disclosures are all just part of an April Fool's joke.

He's just trying to bait us _while not violating his NDA_ and observe the chaos that results. He probably remembers the pre-M9 paroxysms in _these very forums_ as well as I do. Also, odds are he's feeling pretty darn smug if he's got a real "game-changer" of a digital RF in his hands right now and we don't, wouldn't you think? Now, whether this behavior makes Jeff a total jerk or shreds his "credibility" in the eyes of his peers (He seems to be a REALLY credible wedding photographer, ie. someone who actually uses high-end equipment to great effect!) is up to the individual. I think he's just engaging in a little British-Humor-style ribbing and taunting, given the time of year it happens to be.

I'll say more... It will (90% certain) be either Nikon or Canon. My money is on the MUCH larger company we're less likely to expect making a "unconventional" move like this, ie. Jeff's current sponsored choice, *Canon*. That said, it'd be pretty cool (speaking as a Nikon D3s & Leica M shooter) for Nikon to completely _punk_ Canon by pulling one of their "Canon Professionals" away from Canon Mark-fuggedaboutit DSLR's with a much smaller, better Nikon digital RF (EVIL or otherwise). I can only hope... 😎

Like others on this forum (Jaapv, I think?) I had a direct (personal communication) confirmation that the M9 was coming and what it was, more or less, 1-2 months before it was launched. The rumblings centered around one of the major-manufacturers coming out with a digital RF (EVIL-style) camera are every bit as convincing this time as they were long in advance of the M9.

No Baz. This Wunderkamera is being manufactured by Ricoh, Epson or Fuji. Canon and Nikon are too large to innovate anymore.

Phony marketing turns me off.

I though marketing included any and all strategies to help bring new products to market. In that context, please explain what you think are the differences between real marketing and phony marketing.

So I pointed the post and people were fooled by it so that makes me the fool???

Interesting reasoning.

Thank you for posting my full name like that, really classy buddy.

He's only having a little fun at someone elses expense. Thought you might have got the joke but it seems you can deliver it but not take it.

Shame...

What are they marketing? You usually market a product, but there is no product here. They are using an "insider" to whip up buzz and only that. I guess everybody loves a secret.

Remind you this thread is 2 days old as of now.

As far as intense heat is concerned, you're right. It has taken Camera and Coffee almost 6 years to reach 239,180 views. This one already has 23,982 views in just two days.

That's already 10% of Camera and Coffee !

What the hell are you talking about?

He edited it so that it makes sense now and took out my name so thank you Kevin.
