Jeff Ascough under NDA for new Rangefinder

I think the Ascough blog post is a prime example for viral marketing.

Irrespective of its actual substance, the reaction to the report has a value of itself: Someone tested the waters and can draw his conclusions - at zero expenditure. That's what I call efficient.

I wonder if this clown had any idea his prank would enflame this forum to the extent that it did?

Funny and not funny for me I'm afraid!

I don't feel offended and I don't agree about the man's alleged bad taste. I enjoyed speculating, and it just was too good to be true. So - no, I don't feel deceived.

But there's a grain of salt to the story: It made a hell of a lot of people react - and that might send a message to camera makers that always are on the lookout for market niches that haven't yet been occupied.

gimme my r-d2! :bang:

on the serious side, Jeff managed to show at least the size of this niche market (whatever that might be).

In a way it is somehow a way better indication than the polls we have on this topics on RFF. Now if those camera companies would just get a clue 🙂

I for one shoot mainly film, and use my M9 as secondary camera.... as crazy as it may sound, i would prefer having Leica MP + an R-D2 rather than my current Ikon + M9.
Digital is just digital in the end, M9 is indeed the perfect camera for me, but even the R-D1 was an excellent camera, if only it has a wee bit more pixels.

I'd take any full frame digital RF cheaper than M9, and use the rest of the cash for a leica MP any day.

and that message is what? … “gosh this lot are gullible”

The most funny part of this joke is how offended people can get. There is no need for a message, it is just supposed to be funny.

hehehe.. note how he's turned off comments on the "April Fool's Day" announcement?

He knows he's upset folks me thinks (and by "upset" I mean, he may understand the implications of starting such a rumour if you're an ambassador for a major camera maker). 🙂

Cheers,
Dave

What? 25 guys on RFF with no life other than posting in this thread? That's a pretty small niche! 😉

You're as gullible as you want to be. Aside from wanting to believe a story like this, you are showing clear interest, and maybe even express a need.

That's highly interesting for marketing departments.

So, swallow your pride, this one wasn't about you.

Hm - consult Google. I think this blog ruffled some feathers, not just on RFF.
