hey folks:

silly question, but has anyone used this Joby Gorillapod and would the Q and the M6 fit onto it??

is this a recommended tripod for travel and street style shooting?

thanks....

There are two different size Gorillapods. I use the smaller one with a Lumix GH3 and G7, with the ballhead. Weight is the limiting factor, I don't use lenses heavier than the 14-42 and 14-45. These are tabletop tripods, of course, good also for handheld use. Haven't used them with film-only cameras, since these Gorillapods are commonly used for video shooting. Not sure why you'd need a tabletop tripod for a rangefinder.

FWIW, Leica seems to think there's a use (or at least a market) for a tabletop tripod, because they make their own:

Here are two blog posts about how to use the tripod off-table as a stabilizer:

Personally, I use the Pedco UltraPod II. It's small, cheap, light, and works in a pinch. May not work for heavier rigs, and you have to crank down on the ballhead pretty firmly. However, at a fraction of the cost of the Leica tripod, I can deal with its shortcomings.
