According to this source McCain refused secret service protection, is that true, since you met him?

there was a lot of secret service.
As far as IS, I am a Leica shooter. No beasts for me. I try to avoid the photographer profiling.
Dressed business-casual may have helped, considering most of the media looked like bums.

You should have carried both your Leica bodies and all of your lenses. Also one of your bodies should have been loaded with a high speed film or a film which could be easily pushed.
Your approach was "conservative".

According to Dwayne's site, here, they're much more flexible than that...I think Dwayne's will still do push. I think the standard option is +1 1/3 or IE 500 for K200, and there are no intermediate pushes
"K-14 Push & Pull
Push up to 3 stops in 1/2 stop increments
Pull up to 2 stops in 1/2 stop increments"

We're all light!
Politics aside, the best thing to have done, IMO, was to load up with XP2, vary your EI as necessary, then have your lab of choice process as usual. Unless you already have a a dRF, or dSLR (with requisite IS-equipped zoom), this would be the more straightforward solution, by far.
(And I'll bet neither of the current candidates would have come up with this for you.)

I met a man once...
I love showing up at events with ma lil film baby. Without fail, every time them fancy pantsed humungo DSLR with 80-200 ginormous lenses PJ folk stop to check their histograms i'm snapping the picture that ends up with the thumbs up from the editor.
On the note of whether the push will come out alright, my view on this is hey, at least it won't be just some properly exposed image...it'll have a little charm to it.

Which brings to mind, 10 years ago, stock agencies wanted everything on slide, now they all want high res digital scans --- what effect has this had on the pro / stock market? most pros / stock have migrated to dslr nowadays...
I stopped shooting stock rather than move to a DSLR and parking my a$$ here at this computer for entire days at a time editing and preparing images for the agencies. That most of my lenses would (at that time) need replacing to have a full-featured DSLR didn't help, nor did the sale prices dropping like a stone due to royalty free.
'Retirement' was a boon to my personal work, and thankfully I fell into a teaching job I was able to expand a bit right before the switch to an all digital stock workflow.

Interestingly when a German minister of foreign affairs was surrounded by photojournalists the scurity guys picked out the only guy using a Leica ("you there with the strange camera") and wanted to exclude him. Only the fact that the minister himself had once worked as some kind of Photographic trainee and recognised the camera as a Leica saved him from being sent away. At least that did not happen to you!
Just some Info from Europe (at least the Grman speaking part)
There is also Obamania here - the strange kind because we don´t seem to realize:
a) He´s not eligible for us as we are not American citizens! So why are we are drowned in overexcited articles on that guy?
b) It was really like a big drama to read and hear about the two candidates running for presidency......except that thjey were both democrats and the election was going to be between candidtes of different parties and not between Hillary and Obama
Just a sarcastic note how e hear of the things over here.

see, economically, I'm an ultra conservative --- I just wish the conservative party would lose all this religious zealotry --- I guess that makes me a libertarian -- :
Do away with government sponsored pensions (mayors, teachers, senators, any govt job) as this is tearing our economy to shreds., use the savings to provide healthcare for ALL US Citizens.
There shouldn't be government bailouts of union centric industries (airlines, auto), banks, etc...
There should not be farmer subsidies to grow certain plants...
There should not be welfare, only limited unemployment.
We shouldn't be spending money in iran, brazil, mexico, etc to help them fight their drug problem -- it should be handled here.
We also should be isolationist with trade (not sinking our money and resources abroad)
We should take an economic protectionist view
The government should be aggressively prosecuting the financial fraud (mortgage industry, hedge funds, etc)
Legalize pot, tax the bejeezus out of it
I am all over taking names and kicking tail to the taliban, and true terrrorist goups.
I do believe we should have chain gangs in the prison system -- make them work off their debt... I could keep going...
I guess this stance makes me closer to a libertarian -- I also believe that obama, hillary, and mccain -- well, any politician is criminal to a large extent
Well, enough rant -- I usually don't discuss my politics here as I'm a very tiny minority and politics inflames everybody, but you're brave to admit taking pics of mccain in this forum... hope your pics turn out.
You know, I'm a rabid liberal, but if you leave out the chain gangs, pensions, and welfare, I agree with almost all of that.
Good luck to the OP on his shoot!

That's good to know. The labs with the K-Lab processor were only offering the 1 1/3 stop push in general before it all went to Dwayne's, which doesn't use the K-Lab, from what I've seen. There was a nice article on Dwayne's with photos of the operation I think in _Super-8 Today_ magazine about a year or two ago.

If you are a reckless person, put the film in Rodinal, 1 to 100, for two hours. It might work... Best to go to a pro lab for a one-stop push though.

Anyone who studies history will know what the USA is or was. I know about the Ottoman Empire for example, and it's been gone since long before I was born.
Of course, the average person knows the statistics of their local sports team better than either history or current events, so for those people, you might be right.

"it's a shame that none of the washington press core shoot rangefinders -- it's all dslr --- maybe we need a rangefinder friendly whitehouse press secretary."
Actually, the local newspaper just ran a photo taken of Hillary taken in Washington. She was surrounded by the Washington news photographers, elbowing their way to another glorified mugshot. I couldn't help but notice one of the photographers out in front was using a Leica M rangefinder.

The current official White House photographer, Eric Draper occasionally uses a Leica (or @ least used to).
