this is what i like, friendly conversation and sharing.

i also like to think of rff as us, not me or you alone.

there is much good information here and it is usually shared in a non confrontational manner.
if comments get out of hand it is usually handled well.

if people do get out of hand, they also are handled, usually in a private and firm manner.

considering the number of members and the traffic here i have been fortunate in having to ban only a very few people.
second chances are freely given and usually respectfully accepted.

this is a good place.

This seems to be a pretty nice place. I've seen many posters get jumped all over for no reason on other forums (DPReview). People claiming they dominate photography (I never heard anything so stupid).

Everyone here seems pretty supportive. Though it's really expensive, visiting these forums makes me want to buy all kinds of cameras and lenses.

I keep saying it.. "Community" .. made me feel right at home from the beginning. 😀

Thanks to the lot of you, old, new and yet to be seen 😀

Cheers

How anyone could label fifty adult men with cat avatars as unfriendly is beyond me.
LOL!! Thanks Biggles ~ I just fell out of my chair!!

I too enjoy the comments/posts of newbies and oldbies 🙄 alike. There's lots of valuable seasoned RF advice here and with every new member comes a fresh perspective. That too is a great value .. to me anyway.

Hey, it keeps me comin' back.

other than first time posters trying to sell $3000 worth of gear 😀, it seems to be a friendly and very helping enviornment.

I may not have lots of posts under my belt, but I read most of the posts

nickname Dostacos which I use on almost all internet boards I am on. The name comes from my offroading forum because I own 2 toyota tacmas that are affectionitly called TACOs on TTORA [Tacoma Territory off roaders association]

I am one of those being addressed in the remarks by FrankS. And I have been re-considering, partly because of some very thoughtful and open PMs following my last post.

I like the comment about the cat avatars. I had to euthanize my elderly little pal last month, and though I still have my lovably goofy dog, I've lost my zen. I believe I'll try to find another zen kitty at the local shelter soon.

This AM I had a couple of external malignancies sliced out of me, and maybe some of my pent-up bile went with them. The fact is, there are many sharp, interesting, and clever people in this little community, and there's generally some comment from at least one of them which can elicit a smile.

One final point--I have to confess to a hopeless love for ugly bokeh; don't know why, but I like all the little ellipses and squiggles. Maybe I'm a closet impressionist.

I appreciate the timing of this thread, and my thanks to all who contributed.

Fred,

I lost my old ugly bag of hair / best furry friend, Pooka, just last year, and it was hard. I really sympathize. And as to your medical situation - I offer my prayers and heartfelt concern. I like swirly bokeh, like bubbles in champagne.

Best Regards and a Quick Recovery!

Cool thread 🙂 .... Did Todd say free beer? 😀

I hope everyone feels welcome here at RFF, It would be the most easy going and pleasant forum I've come across on any topic. Maybe uptight people and RF's don’t mix well???

Laika, it's not free beer. It's focusing fluid.

Sorry about your woes, Fred. I wish I could say something useful other than I'm glad I know your name now. Stay put & keep cool. The baddies were taken off from your body and your life will improve! 🙂

Biggles... I really liked the comment about men with cat avatars. I was going to change mine to suit the season (it's winter here in IL), but I guess I'll keep it a bit longer.

Unless you read the S&D or Leica photo.net forums. Full of both 🙂
After today's little kafwuffle, what's the bet the W/NW threads are banned?

Frank, thanks for starting this post, you've summed it up very well.

Kim, a very good point about the RFF name and real name. So once again I'll confess that Fred is not my real name, but it belongs to my cat in my avatar, I couldn't think of anything clever when I joined so when the black hairball wandered over my keys that night the name stuck. I guess I didn't know how long I'd be here.

So welcome all those who are new here and feel free to post and say hello. It's not a closed shop. We all have different views and respect those views of others. So I'll raise my paw, sorry hand and join in with a drop of focussing fluid.

Cheers!

Excellent. I need to get a test roll through my newly-arrived Canonet, and now I know what to shoot.

I need a pic of the cats to be my avatar, purely to reassert my masculinity in this environment 😛

And I need a shot of some beer. Do we need to begin a 'Camera and Coors' thread? Erm... 'Summilux and Stella'?

Cheers,
Jamie
