Hi,
Brian Sweeney also fixed a back focus problem on the J-8, as well providing a new glass on one of the elements.
Here are the initial results, I am curious to find out if you guys are getting similar results as well, considering the wider variances on Russian lens, though the J-8 is supposed to be one of the better lenses around.
at F2, I find the J-8 is soft, ideal for portraiture shots. (Compare the difference (same model) with the J-8 and the previous thread where the I-50Rigid is tack sharp at f3.5)
at F16, I find the J-8 is sharp.

On this lens, I put on a new optics module. Tested it out on the M8. Post a crop of your models eyes. I'd like to see what is going on.
I just rebuilt the collapsible I-50. Will be posting instructions soon. I find it good, but my early J-3's seem sharper.

I shot a J8 on a CL last month and found a back focus of about 4-6 inches when focusing at close to minimum distance. When the subject was further away, the back focus seemed to increase in distance. I'm going to shoot my a roll on my Zorki this month and then decide whether to shim it and/or send it to Brian.

Brian-
I'm quite interested in the collapsible I-50 results. I've got one also but haven't used it yet on my CL's (I have 2), still waiting to finish a roll with a newly acquired 40 'cron.
Surprisingly, my collapsible I-50 doesn't hit the meter stalk when I collapse it.

here's another J-8 shot wide-open.
I am going to spend more time exploring this lens...a lot of character.

The links come up with a "not found" error.
I would like to see some shots for what is going on.
I finished the I-50, put results up in the Mad Scientist forum.

i love the lens. going to shot only with the j-8 tomorrow.

The shots look good to me. With the J-8, J-3, and Sonnars in general: there is a lot of field curvature. If the focus is optimized for the center, you need to get a feel for pictures that you focus and recompose. "all part of the charm" of a Sonnar.
