Just received a package of three Jupiter 8's (my first Soviet lenses) - they were a job lot for GBP 40 including postage.
They're all the same model (silver, early 1960s, from the factory with the "squashed prism" logo, except that one has what looks like a red "pi" symbol - I understand that this denotes a coated lens (that said, although the front elements of the other two lenses are uncoated, their rear elements are coated).
Anyway, the colour rendition of the uncoated and coated lenses is very different (the first photo is the partially coated lens, the second the fully coated "pi" lens). These test photos were taken with my Epson R-D1.
Compared with the more neutral colour rendition of the partially coated lens, the colour of the fully coated lens is very warm - and false; not sure I like it. (I would've thought lens designers would use coatings that had minimal impact on colour.)
I've seen a lot of posts discussing the resolution of Soviet lenses, but nothing on how they handle colour. Any thoughts, anyone? Is it usual for Soviet lens coatings to affect colour so markedly?
