Soft below f/6.3, should fit a P, needs hood. A J12 might not fit...

I used mine on my P with no trouble. I like this lens a lot. You may want to search through the FSU forum here--there are several discussions about the J-9 that should be helpful.
And while I like mine wide open just fine, I will agree with Noel about using a hood! The lens has a 49mm filter thread and 49mm hoods are fairly easy to find and relatively inexpensive.

You will like this lens a lot. However, as with most Russian equipment--and definitely with a Jupiter 9--you will need to have the lens checked and adjusted to fit your Leica-standard body. Otherwise you will be disappointed. Some camera repairmen will think that the lens is fine if they adjust it to align with your rangefinder at infinity. Not so! It must be set up also so that it focuses correctly at near distances. I sent mine to Oleg at OKvintagecameras, and he did a great job. But make sure he knows it is to focus on a Leica/Canon camera--not a FED or a Zorki.
Have fun with it. Correctly adjusted, it's very good--a Summicron at Walmart prices.
