I only want three more cameras. I have all the other cameras I wanted. Right now it comes down to. 1 more p&s, 1 large format 4x5 because I dont have any and would like to try it, and a MF SLR of some kind. Of course with 4x5 Ill need a scanner that can scan 4x5 all I have is the epson v500. Of course with the MF SLR ill need a full complement of telephoto and macro and wide lenses, bellows, tubes etc, filters. Lets see, a tripod will be needed too, a sturdy one, I guess I can try a few and see which ones I like, I can always resell the extras on Craigslist and get my money back. Ill need negative carriers for the 6x7, and my Beseler 23CII wont do 4x5 so Ill just upgrade to a 45 series then I can do all, of course then my other carriers and scheider lenses wont fit, but those are easily found on ebay so.... so ya, just three more cameras is all I still need. not including the parts cameras I need to buy to fix and customize, some of the annoying things wrong with some in my collection. Other than that though its good to know that I only need 3 more cameras and then Ill be done with GAS forever!

been there, done that.

i would have enjoyed the process a lot more if i had focused on taking pictures with the gear i already had and saving money for the sake of saving money (without a purchase in mind), instead of making plans, worrying about all of the formats and camera types i was missing out on (surely i would find "the right camera for my photography"), and repeatedly saving money just to blow it all at once.

what a misspent youth. 🙄

Hey, more power to you if you can make that work - you'll be the first one here to actually do it I imagine.

Personally, I looooove having a big collection. Sure, not everything gets used, but owning it gives me great pleasure as well.

That was august. You can add three more since then… EDIT: Nope, add four.

You obviously haven't stepped into Nikon rangefinders.
Or Leica Barnack cameras.
Or Leica M cameras.
Or Leica copies.
Or Pentax screwmount cameras.
Or Zeiss Ikonta folders.
Or Nikon F SLRs
Or Bronica S mount cameras.
Or Graflex cameras.
Or Mirandas.
Or Robots.
Or Exa / Exaktas.
Or Pentacons.
Or Contaxes.
Or cameras with interesting markings like MIOJ or <EP>.

Seriously, if you want a reliable medium format SLR with great lenses, try a Bronica S2a. You can hack your own lenses for it even as it has a generic 57x1mm thread in the focusing helical. The native Zenzanon lenses go from 45mm up to 300mm. I've owned all but the 45mm. Most of the best lenses for this system are made by Nikon. They are medium format Nikkors from 50mm up to the short mount 600mm. The S2a is inexpensive, very reliable, loud as hell (sounds like racking a Mossberg shotgun) and the lenses are great.

For the 4x5, the obvious choice would be a Crown Graphic. They are plentiful, reliable and cheap.

"Three more cameras and I'll have GAS no more!"

I'll be pleasantly surprised if you last a good year after your next three cameras.

In some Chinese martial arts practices, you're meant to abstain from ejaculation for a minimum of 100 days to build internal energy. Let's just say that not too many people make it very far. The same applies to cameras and GAS.

I wish you luck; didn't work for me!
I just try and concentrate on using the ones I've got.

This reminds me of the moment, when I decided, I wanted the Color Heliar 75/2.5 in Nikon F mount. Since there was none, I bought a Minolta version, which has generated a sequence, in which I ended up buying 3 new camera systems and 15 lenses.

Every time I think my GAS is cured, something else brings it back up. The most recent case was a Pentax 6x7.

However, I will say the Pentax cured my GAS for a Hassie, a Mamiya RB and a Mamiya C330, so I can't complain!

68Degrees, you totally forgot that to properly experience Large Format you need TWO large format cameras. You need a press or field camera so you can take it places, and you need a rail camera so you can do all the nifty lens shifting stuff. I guess that means two big survey tripods... and cases... and film holders... it's all good, you can just count that as part of the camera...

Now, the good news is, you can skip needing an enlarger or bigger scanner by simply moving up from a 4x5 to either a 5x7 or 8x10 and doing contact printing. so you just need all the darkroom equipment to do contact printing. But that's not GAS, that's IAF (Infrastructure Acquisition Syndrome).

(Thanks for the amusing post, I keep telling myself when I get an OM-2sp or OM-4 my 35mm GAS will be over, but we know that's a lie).

One can cure GAS. The problem is that the cure won't last long. I was cured for about 4 months or so, and then I developed a sudden desire for an M4 body... even though I already have an M4-2. Why did this happen? I don't know.

Got it about a month ago, and also nabbed a nice 28mm lens to go with it (á la Winogrand). Temporary patch...

Anybody else in that plateau?
